|
|
Hi, I recently purchased a 2008 19’ Angler. It has a 70 hp outboard on it.
I’d like to get a 9 hp kicker for backup and trolling. It’s been recommended I remove the trim tabs in order to install a second motor.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.thank _________________ JohnNiddrie |

You can mount it on a Mini Jacker and then it should clear the trim tabs. _________________ Jody Kidd

Thanks for your reply. I’ll check it out, any model or supplier you’d recommend- I’m not familiar with them. Thanks again! |

The trim tabs and a Permitrim on the antiventillation plate on the motor are both vital for the best ride and performance of your C Dory 19. I have had kickers on all of my C Dorys and never removed the trim tabs. You can find an 8 hp high trust motor which might serve you better than a regular 9 hp. _________________ Bob Austin

I have a 19’ Angler with a Honda 90 and a Yamaha 9.9 kicker. Be sure to carefully measure before drilling holes for the mini jacker. It is a tight fit to keep the two motors spaced far enough apart so that both can function without hitting each other.
The mini jacker is a good quality mount and makes for a solid connection. Mine tilts up to the lock position and has about 1” to spare between the motor hood and port side splash well wall.
I have the permatrim, but no trim tabs |

Also be sure and take precautions to avoid core moisture intrusion into the transom, by carefully marking the holes, then overdriving them, route out about 1/4" of core beyond that hole, of the core, with Dremel or Allen key wrench... Paint the exposed core all around the hole with neat epoxy, the Fill this hole with high density filler/epoxy mixture, after set up, drill hole for the mini-jacker into this epoxy plug. This will avoid transom rot and core delamination down the line....(holds true for any hole in a cored part of the C Dory.) |

Thanks a lot for all that great info, it’s very much appreciated - after reading through some of the posts I definitely want to epoxy all the screw holes throughout. The boat is a 2008 but has hardly seen the water (35 hrs) lucky it was in a warm bay for most of its life. |

I can't imagine taking trim tabs off a CD 19. Like another poster said, there are much lighter kickers if there is concern with that. |
