Does anyone have any information about the hydraulic steering unit on the 2004 C dory 16?
I am looking for the manufacturer/part number so I can research how to replace fluid and or bleeding. |

rigger173,
Most small C-Dory's came stock with inexpensive push pull cable steering systems. Maybe the boat the you are viewing has a BayStar hydraulic steering or a SeaStar hydraulic steering system. The manual and hydraulic systems were mostly made by Teleflex, but now are under the Dometic brand.
Take a look at the steering cylinder on the engine and that will provide the brand and type.
The hydraulic steering systems are actually very simple to bleed and fill and the guidance is available on line from the manufacturer. _________________ Steve Baum

The bay star is easy to bleed, and there are videos on line for that. The hydraulic fluid is as much as $33 a quart. I get the Phillips 66 X/C 5606A Aviation Hydaulic Fluid - 1 gal Bottle for $55 (was 46 a couple of years ago) which is the same mil specs hydraulic oil. Do not use ATF or Brake fluid. (Yes I know that some have, but it may damage seals, and it is cheaper in the long run to use the proper fluid.
If it is the mechanical push pull cable, just get a new set (measure the length of tube). Be sure and get the "non feedback" unit. _________________ Bob Austin
