|

First post here as I’m still hunting for my first C-Dory. There is a boat on the market currently that partially sank due to a drain plug issue resulting in an insurance claim where the boat had to be re wired. According to the seller, the outboard wasn’t harmed. I do not know how long that this Tomcat was partially sunk. What are the chances that the core of this boat has extensive moisture in it and will require expensive repairs in the future? |

If this is a recent Tom Cat, it probably should have a foam core. You would want the bilge pumps, macerator pumps. water pump, shower sump pump and wash down pumps changed out.
I would inspect the fuel tanks for corrosion.
Has the boat been in freeze thaw cycles? _________________ Bob Austin

Thanks for your response. I tried sending you an email but I don’t believe it went though via the function on this site. The best I can tell, this 2020 tomcat has lived in Texas and along the gulf coast so I don’t expect there were any hard freeze thaw cycles. The core issue scares me almost to the point of not purchasing one of these! |

Occasionally Houston gets a freeze, but it is. about the same a we have in Pensacola: rare, and almost never more than one or two nights. I don't believe we have had any since 2020. As long as everything works--then I would be OK with the purchase. I would factor in the sinking.
What was the cause of the sinking.?
Usually an email from Cbrats gets to me...but there are the mysteries of the internet. Once, I received an email months after it was sent (which seems impossible). |

I was told that the cause was a drain plug issue. Possibly an improperly installed bulkhead fitting. Whatever boat I end up with will reside in North Alabama on Lake Guntersville. The boat will stay in a covered wet slip there close to the southernmost point of the TN river. There are certainly some freezes here. |
