This boat will be coming up for sale sometime in the next few years. There are 1800 hours on the engines as of today. I wonder what it might be worth if I put another 500 hours on these?

Outboard engines which are run daily, such as Coast Guard, harbor patrol, some commercial operations--much of which is at lower speeds, can get up to 8,000 or even 10,000 hours on some engine. In recreational boats, Generally unless we know that the engine was used in fresh water, or salt water, where it was flushed with fresh and or salt a way, each time it is used, would be considered hi hours at 2,000 hours, and if I was buying I would discount the cost of a new engine--probably in the $15,000 to $18,000 if factoring in upgraded steering and binnacle and instruments.

I second this-- those hours to me (a serious/informed buyer presently on hold) even at 1800 are worth $0 each. Don't take that personally (especially since I've drooled over your photo albums, ha), but anything over 1,500 hours for a salt water boat in the hands of most people is only worth a few hundred bucks due to the wildcard factor. A new 115 is about $16k installed, more if you're going to upgrade steering etc while you're at it... and who knows what transom fun you'll discover with the mount holes. I haven't priced out twins, but I'm guessing it'll work out to similar after factoring in labor (and 2x the mount hole transom fun). You're probably looking at $45k (maybe to 50k depending on how new your other goodies are) selling price today; more if they're in a hurry and/or local, less if they go looking for issues and/or are far away. Average hours for seasonal boating is 50-100 a year, depending on the source (like saying the average car is driven 12-15k miles a year), so you're at 106(?)/year now, life of the boat, which checks out (more isn't bad; think 'highway miles'-- and that means it sat less). Best of luck to you with the next 500-- how envious I, and many others, are! Happy New Year.

So in other words, another 500 hours won't hurt the value of the boat. Smile
