A couple of years ago, one of the bead chains holding my fuel cap to the boat came apart. The small screw tumbled down into the fuel tank, and I just dealt with having one unleashed fuel cap.

I recently had occasion to remove, drain and clean my fuel tanks, and in doing so, finally retrieved the errant screw.

I reinstalled it, and then checked the screw on my other fuel cap. It was loose, to the point of nearly falling out.

I'm adding 'check filler cap screws' to my annual maintenance round, and recommend it to others.

Great idea. One of my bead chains came loose too...

Thank you!
I will check mine today.

I have the exact same issue -- getting my fuel tank drained this weekend actually to hopefully retrieve the screw.

I did a dabble of googling and it looks like Loctite 577 is the fuel resistant, medium strength thread sealer.
