Does anyone know if it’s okay to use the Wallas exhaust port (factory install) for the exhaust from a small Chinese parking heater which I am installing. The Wallas gave up and is not repairable after17 years of faithful service. The boat is a 2006 and I’m not ready to burn it up.

They are different sizes - sadly. About all you can use is the hole in side of the boat somebody made for the wallas exhaust.
 
Yes you are correct about the sizes, the heaters exhaust pipe will fit inside the wallas exhaust pipe. I left about 3” of the heaters exhaust pipe sticking out of the end of the Wallace pipe to allow connection to the heater, the other end is the Wallace end which connects to the exhaust port as it always has. I am concerned about the exhaust heat output compared to the Wallace exhaust heat output.

When the heater is on the lowest setting the exhaust temperature is 147 degrees f. Which seems pretty warm to me what’s the pub’s options

They do fit inside one another very nicely. It was tempting to do it that way and run some high temperature ducting tape with some high temperature sealants to keep it from leaking. It's not really the "right" way, but that is basically what the HVAC guys did with your furnace and hot water heater at all of our houses - that is the ones with natural gas. I put a new thru hull in the boat that actually fits these heaters - there are not very expensive. I think I paid $25 bucks or something.

As far as how hot they get? I have an 8kw (which is a lie I know) and it gets hot as heck in the boat if you want it to. There has been no issue with how hot it gets in any of the exhaust piping or the heater vents, but most of the time the heater isn't set on that hot of a setting....somewhere near the low to middle. Do keep the protective heat wrap on the exhaust piping because it gets really hot. You probably already were.

BTW - putting this heater in was some of the best boat money I've ever spent. They are great heaters for cold climates - at least mine has been.

Thanks for the encouragement on my project. The heater is a Vevor 8 kw and puts out lots of heat !

Hi, I've been researching the heaters just like the Vevor you mentioned. Nice to know they work well in the C-Dory. I was thinking of even running it outside like in the cockpit and ducting to the cabin.

Did you go with the computer tower looking one or the bread maker looking one?
 
I went with the smaller 8kw size and now wishing I would of gone with the 5kw. The one I have really puts out the heat even on the lowest setting. But to be fair the weather here in the PNW has been crazy hot, the rain is supposed to start up tomorrow and the daytime temperatures drop into the 60’s. I’ll give it a go then.
I mounted my heater to the under side of the galley cabinet my boat is a 2006 22’ cruiser and we just don’t have the room for anything else in the cockpit, my next challenge is to find a way to insulate the exhaust tube, that puppy gets HOT!! If anyone has some ideas let me know.

Dave, you can go into my album on Midnight Flyer, and look for the nested album on my Webasto install. Might get some ideas there. The insulation I used was from the same company I got the exhaust pipe from. I'd have to go do some research on which company that was, but they are right across the street from Scan Marine. (Scan manufacturers the Wallas. If that's wrong, then it was Scan I got the additional Webasto parts from.) Colby
 
Dave, I did install a Vevor 5kw in my boat, and I'm very happy with it. If I remember correctly, the 5 and 8 are the exact same unit with different factory setting. Depending on your controller, the setting can be adjusted, I did lower both the high and low setting on mine. I also don't use the thermostat very often since it will try to get to temperature as fast as possible and get hotter. As TR bauer said, somewhere between low and medium will get the boat toastie in just about any condition.
I did put a new exhaust port and covered it with high temperature tape. I can add picture later.
 
C-Wolfe do you recall what brand heat tape you used ? I know that header wrap doesn’t work at all as it transfers the heat, so far the best thing I’ve found is wrapping a Ove- Glove around the exhaust pipe.
There has to be a better way !!

Dave, it was actually tubing that slide over the exhaust pipe. It was non branded heat shield tubing ordered online. If you pm me your email, I can email you a link
