Xmas Greetings to All,

We had a fantastic boating adventure with 4 of our grandchildren and one parental unit yesterday on the Tennessee River near Guntersville Dam. We left out of Ditto Landing around 2pm and went Bald Eagle hunting. Found a beauty atop a bare tree down river from Shoal Creek. We were treated to 2 hours of action from a mating pair. The images highlight the female snatching a small duck from the water and returning it to a tree for a snack. This was my first chance at photographing a water kill and it was even better with my grandkids aboard. The CD makes a great photography platform with the camperback up because the wildlife tends to ignore it.

There are also some other raptor shots of Redtail Hawks and an Osprey. We got the Great White heron shots earlier.

Excellent images. The range of the wing rotation is very wide and the beautiful colors.

very nice! I noticed that the 2005 eagle is banded, too bad we can't get the number, that would be interesting as well. And...talented people like you should be locked in a box somewhere so klutzes like me can feel better :cry oops, sorry JamesTXSD Alias Jim and Joan 8)

Thrilling pictures -- you have a wonderful eye and sensitivity to wildlife -- thanks for sharing.

Checked out your gallery, you have made some great modifications. Gave me some ideas.

My thanks to all for the encouraging words.

We went out again yesterday and took more images of these fascinating raptors. We plan to track the progress of this pair as they mate, lay eggs, guard the nest and the eaglet(s) fledge around mid-March. These shots are only possible from a boat and we usually have the river to ourselves from December to early May.

I hope to get a shot of the Bald Eagle mating spiral where they lock talons and drop hundreds of feet before separating. This is probably asking too much since it is a rare thing to witness; but it keeps me coming back for more.

Best to All,
Richard

Richard -

We have been fortunate enough to see the mating spiral -- a marvelous sight -- of course, we didn't have our camera at the right moment. Stay patient -- we'd love to see your photos of that rare and stupendous event!
