Hi all
We are look forward to getting our cd 25 in the next week ( or so )!!!!!! We keep having questions and this is the best place to look for answers. What about anchor chain and rode. We have always used all chain on our boats but we are thinking of using 125 feet of chain then splicing onto 1/2 rode for another 100 feet. Just wonder what other cd-25 owners have used? We hope to make it to Blakley if the boat is ready
thanks

From what I have witnessed with most boats this size is about 20 feet of chain and the rest line. I have 20 feet on a 22 lb Bruce type with 300 feet of 1/2 inch. The weigh of all that chain would be a concern to me and the 1/2 rode is plenty heavy enough to anchor the boat safely.

We have 30' of chain and 300' of line. We have a Bruce style anchor. No windlass as of yet. Seems to work fine, but I've never been in a really big blow while anchored.

We have 20' of chain and 300' of rode for sale, too big to go through a windlass, but perfect if you are going to do it manually...will make you a good deal, and deliver to Blakely, if you are interested.

Pat, what size is the line and chain? Why is it to big for the windless?

And I have a 16 lb Bruce type anchor with about 15 feet of 1/4 in chain for sale. $50. Don't know what it might cost to ship.

SOLD

Fred, the chain is 3/8 instead of 1/4 and the rode is 5/8 instead of 1/2---this is the combo we bought when we got the 22. The people at WM told me it would be too big if we ever got a windlass. We were inexperienced and didn't think we would get a windlass any time soon due to the price. It worked just fine manually and fit in the locker just fine, too.

Twenty feet of chain with a 14 lb. Delta on one end and 200 feet of rode on the other. That anchor fits well on the new 25 bow roller/winch. Self launches and parks flawlessly so far.

I have used Bruce on my last two boats, and the Delta is sharper nosed and penetrates better than the Bruce on grassy or hard clay bottoms.

It's narrower than the Bruce, weight for weight, though, so it may not have as much holding power in soft mud. That's speculation on my part.

Man, you guys make me feel like overkill, but I sleep well.

I have the 22lb bruce, 20 feet of 3/8 chain and 600feet of 5/8 rope - I figure if I ever switch to a Nordic Tug I already have the anchor system.

Cheers,

Joe
