Glass which was cut out over the top of the void over the wood core of the transom
Final prep shows void in non marine plywood. The top layer of glass was only about 1/8 to 3/16 " thick. No rot or moisture in the core--but note that the wood in the transom ends before the top of the transom, and at the left side of the photo, instead of being carried all of the way to the side of the transom. In other words the poorly laminated spash well molding is taking a lot of the load of the engine thrust, instead of the sides of the hull.

Port side initial cuts, note very thin layer of glass, a screw driver tapping on it broke it out. Note the crack going into the spash well and into the glass on top; compare with next photo
Hole in filler on stb side of transom--only a layer of roving taking the load of the thrust of the engine, with lots of filler/polyester resin
Final clean out of transom on stb. Note the hole all of the way thru the splash pan--This is where the cracks are developing in the side of the transoms, and the load is transfered there inside of to the side of the hull as is proper.
