On longer trips I run both the top and bottom nuts tight into the turnbuckle. The turnbuckle is rated for 3500 pounds It has a hole in the middle which I stick a phillips screw driver to hold the turnbuckle while I either tighten or lossen the jam nuts on the turnbuckle itself

Same thing on the other side, will increase rim size to 15" from 14" and get Michilin radials on this trailer, the tires supplied really suck. a shame with a quality trailer someone should have said these tires just are not good enough, I guess there ok if you never leave the front porch
Poor quality tires caused the fenders to oscillate at different speeds, causing these struts to break in less than 5000 miles on a new trailer, added gussets to make them stronger
Notice broken fender strut, Float On Trailers are sending new ones

P1000487 The turnbuckle is only hand tight and it holds the bow down tight. The lock nut on the turnbuckle wonders down and it will not let the turnbuckle loosen up. The aluminum angle underneath that the ubolt is bolted thru is below the top flange of the frame rail. Hopefully preventing a close relationship between boat and truck and it's occupants should the unthinkable occur. Looks and works better than a stinking strap
