2024 SE Alaska cruise with 13 year old granddaughter

After we left Wrenny and Jay at Red Bluff Bay, we too headed to Kake for fuel. When we got to the dock and inquired about fuel, we were told that the fuel guy just now medevaced out with his wife. No fuel. Looked like we’d be heading to Petersburg. My wife, Colleen had the idea to call our...

What's your favorite fish for the table ?

Smaller halibut, say under 40 pounds. I don’t care for salmon and never target them. Try to avoid catching rock fish.

    THANK YOU DR. BOB

I probably owe my life to Bob and Marie. I swear, before I do something stupid in my Alaska waters, I ask myself, what would Bob and Marie do? I got to meet them in Juneau a number of years ago, probably their last trip up here, when they came up to Juneau on their CD25, Thataway. I have lots...

    Sad story. C-Dory in Sitka.

Well, Bob; you know better than most, the number of variables that can stack up out there. Compound that with the cold and wind and waves, ages, physical capabilities and luck of the draw…. It is a tragedy, no matter how you stack it. Very few smaller craft have survival suits, let alone time...

    SE Alaska group cruise 2022

Hi Jay. Good travels. Be sure to check in. While we are currently boatless, Blue Moon sold yesterday, we are still here at the cove. It will be good to see you , but also know that we have tools, some shop space and sheltered anchorage, and of course the hot tub. Let me know if you need...

    Intuition to Alaska - 2021

The Alaska Series are great little boats and row ok as long as there isn't much wind or current. It can be a pretty a frightening experience to be getting blown away from your boat out in the middle of the wilderness though. A reliable little motor, emphasis on reliable is a good idea. I had...

    2017 trip to Alaska

You're getting some good advice from folks who know their stuff. It will be a great trip and nothing to be afraid of, given preparation, respect and enough time to wait for the weather to beautify at times. I sent a P.M.

    Lewmar Pro Fish woes

We have the Profish and had nothing but trouble on our last trip. Works fine past the splice and through the chain but had one hockle after another as well as jamming. A while back, I removed 200' of rope to create more fall into the locker and it seemed to work fine for a good while. I'm...
