Tomcat fuel fill / fuel vent upgrade?

Just an update for future readers... I ended up going the VOPR route and added Racor LG100's and have had no issues since. A local fiberglass repair shop patched the holes in the side of the boat from the old vents. Still an old boat, but now with two less holes! I also had no issue with fuel...

Tomcat cockpit construction? Adventures in rotten core...

Does anyone know any details of how the Tomcat cockpit was constructed in the 2007/2008 vintage boats? A previous owner of my boat removed the aft steering station that included a hole in the front starboard corner of the deck, likely to pass control cables and wiring. The hole in the deck was...

change upper drain plumbing on TomCat 255 fish boxes?

Quick update on this older post - I'm having a local shop glass in the old thru-hull for the drain. For now the hose will just dump into the bilge but I did see someone mention plumbing in a shower sump box on each side that would handle the fish box drain water.

    TomCat transducer location?

I've had adding a 1kw airmar or similar to my TC255 for a while to improve on the current thru-hull transducer that is installed near the back of the port sponson. I saw joechiro30 had done just that on the 2007 that he was selling recently, and he sent me photos of his set-up. It looks similar...

tomcat float-on trailer bow catcher upgrade?

Here's mine. Not the best photo since the bow rub rail channel is removed and draped over the trailer (topic for a different post!). My neighbor welds aluminum from time to time. Might have to see if he can weld a couple supports to the post. Bob - you'll notice that I took your advice from...

tomcat float-on trailer bow catcher upgrade?

Thanks, Bob. The dock protector and turnbuckle are good ideas. In looking at more trailer photos, I also see that my crossmember needs diagonal braces to the ladder and winch tower. It's started to bow forward from hitting it repeatedly between driving the boat on and having to slide it forward...

tomcat float-on trailer bow catcher upgrade?

Hi All, I have a 2008 Float-On trailer for our 2008 Tomcat. The trailer tows really well - great design. We tow a fair bit over rough AK roads and this year I noticed that the fronts of both keels are starting to rub through the carpet on the bow catcher crossmember. The last time I launched I...

Tomcat fuel fill / fuel vent upgrade?

Hi Rob, I think I'm going to have to go the VOPR type fill route. I purchased a couple of the Attwood P-trap style vents but the original vent holes are so high that there isn't going to be enough room below the gunnel to install them correctly. Seriously bad craftsmanship by the builder to...

Tomcat fuel fill / fuel vent upgrade?

HI All, I have at 2008 Tomcat with two independent 75 gallon tanks port and starboard. The original fuel tank vents are high on the side of the gunnel, so high in fact that there is no room for the typical upward sweep that would keep water from running right down into the tanks...

how much water in foam core is too much?

Hi All, We've had a very wet July in Alaska and some of the deck penetrations for the bow rail hardware of the new-to-us 2008 TomCat started dripping inside. A few of these had some rust staining on the inside, which I now know is a bit of a red flag, but were not mentioned during the...

change upper drain plumbing on TomCat 255 fish boxes?

Thanks for the reply, Bob. Glassing the thru-hull hole seems like it would be a big job but replacing the plastic barbed fitting with a threaded brass thru-hull that could be capped on the inside seems like a possible compromise.
