    Where are all the Marinauts?

The deadrise of the Marinaut 215 is 12 degrees at the transom, and 25 degrees at the bow. The draft is 16", so this deadrise and draft are significantly more than the C Dory 22. I consider 24 degrees as a high deadrise or "deep Vee" boat.

    Grip tape

An expansion of what Shad wrote: I have used gel coat of the same or contrasting color thicked to the point it gives small hills and valleys when applied with one the green rollers which looks like a coarse Scotch-brite Scouring pad. No non skid media is required. and the non-skid is not...

    Where are all the Marinauts?

This is an older thread, but a gentleman named Richardo Ruelos who had worked for C Dory toward the end of the Reynold's era-Probably 2008, bought the Marinaut molds and name in about 2016, to combine with having purchased several molds and the "name" of "Cape Dory". built 2 or 3 more...

    Vberth Insulation

I found that most of the sides of the hull conformed well with the thicker foams, (using a spray contact cement) There may be some areas right at the top which do not conform perfectly to the hull. There it may be prudent to layer several layers of thinner foam. The 5mm will conform very well...

Where the heck is all this moisture coming from!?

Glenn, welcome aboard. Sorry to see you have an issue with a newer boat. (2016, where as, there are plenty of 40 year old C Dory 's plying the USA and Canadian waters. Almost 60 years ago, I lived in Richmond VA, and had access to a beach house at Nag's head, so I have some understanding of...

    Grip tape

We have used various paints and epxoies as the "binder" and anything from sand to ground walnut shells (used to clean jet engines) and various "grits"/anti slip addatives. (Put in "anti slip paint addatives" in your search engine). We put a coat of paint down after cleaning well, then while...

2026 Hontoon Island Gathering. March 3,4,5. DeLand Florida on St. John’s river.

Also go to albums such as Colby Smith, C-Otter, and John Highsmith's (as well as mine) to find photos of the gathering. These photos give you a lot of information, There is one which was an aerial view of the Hontoon State Park Island and Marine. We also gone to several gatherings after we...

    Vberth Insulation

I have used 5/8 to 3/4 foams where I insulated the hulls of boats venturing into higher lattitudes. The thicker the insulation the higher the R value. The "mouse fir" or whatever does offer one solution. I have used various smooth surface material, becuase getting the "fur" clean if there are...

    Replacing AFT Cockpit Sole Hatches

Adam, thank you. We are all here to learn from our brothers and sisters on their C Dorys. Here is the link to Boris's original posts. Here are two phots from Journey On's original posts. I have been involved in putting these in 3 C Dory 25 and they seem to keep the bilge dry.

    Replacing AFT Cockpit Sole Hatches

Are these as "leak proof" as the Imtra ones which most of us have used? I have never heard of "Jim Black"--who is behind this line of products?

    Hull help

The photos really help and my 2003 boat which had been abused had similar cracks, but some actualy delamination of the tabbing holding the platform for the "V" berth in place. The constuction you see is the inside of the hull to deck joint. It is a "shoe box" construction. The edge of the...

    Foam core vs. Balsa

There are those who feel that there is less of a shear strenthy with foam in comparison to balsa--in some situations also the foam does not adhere as well to the resin component of the laminate. Foams can still have water intursion, migration, and delamination with freeze thaw cycles. If...

    Members list questions:

The use of private messages is the best source of communication with other members for us. I suspect that some members would object to having their emails and phone numbers avaiable. I have collected my own list of both email and phone number thru the many gatherings we have attended...

Does anyone use a kicker motor on the starboard side?

The only disadvantage might be a little more fuel consumption, and the weight on the Starboard side--having a couple of people, and perhaps moving some items to the opposite side, should balance the boat when at reast, and trim tabs work well when on a plane.

    Seastar HC5345-3 rebuilt

Have you contacted Dometic Marine? Are you certain that you have a Seastar Helm and system. There may be a resivoir if you have teeflex or Hynautic. In those cases there may be a resevoir which is where you add fluid and you pressurize the system. I have owned the Hynautic and Wagner...
