was the water tank there?

Water tank under v berth.
I have a CD22 and have been thinking of putting a water tank under the V-berth. My boat had a 20 gal tank under the aft dinette seat, but that space is better for storage than a water tank. so I took it out. The problem is finding a tank that will fit well in the bow compartment.
So I was wondering:
Is the tank in the forward most compartment (i.e. bow shaped) or one of the sides?
Is the tank a factory install or did you do it yourself?
Where is the water fill and vent?
What is the capacity of the tank?
Do you happen to know the manufacturer and part number of the tank?

Thanks.

Nice install. Good to see you install the vents for air for the compressor. I think this is a mistake ( not doing it) that people make.

water tank in v berth- pics?

The early 25's have the water tank under the V berth on Port side. The ones which have the holding tank aft under the splash well, have the water tank forward under the V berth on Port side. The 1995 25's had heads which were optional. In the 2006 era on---not exactly certain where the change was made. From mid year had the self Contained 9 Gallon holding tanks under the commode itself and then the water tank was moved aft under ths splash well (My 2006 25 had that aft water tank) I would be possible to put one 10 gallon saddle tank on each side of the cockpit, without loosing any functional space.

Moeller makes a number of boat water tanks, but there are a handfull of polypropylene. water tank manufacturers. There is one made for Catalina yachts (saiboats) which may fit, as well as other builders. You have to gain access and then measure how much room, and what the angle of the bottom/taper/ height of the tank. I found several in the 25 gallon size available. NWMI may have records of the older boats or current boats which have the proper size. Request a cataloge or go on line to find all tanks that Moeller has patterns for. I have purchased Moeller tanks thru the years and never had a problem.

The tank, fill and vent usually are on the port side under the berth to balance the Helmsman's weight. on the starboad side. If you get a tank under the center it can be filled from either side. Vent is usually on the same side as the deck fill is. Tanks made in the UK and Europe may be prohibitly expensive for the shipping (and Tariff?)

Yes, there are a number of rotomolded poly tanks that will fit in the bow compartment of a CD22. However, none of them are an exact fit. Building a structure to support and secure a tank in the forward compartment under the berth will be tedious at best unless there is already a tank that fits the contours of the hull. If the factory did install tanks in some 22s in this area perhaps they have information on the tank they used. If some owner's have done this mod on their own, information on the tank they used and their installation could be useful to others.

I am toying with the idea of putting such a tank in my boat. The fill and vent lines would come down through the anchor rode storage area. One aspect of such an installation is having to cut a pretty large section out of the v-berth "deck" and then reinstalling this piece in a manner that provides sufficient support both vertically for berth loads and laterally to support the hull sides in the bow area.

The tank is a 20 gal tank , from the factory. I think all 22 ft and up C Dorys come with a water tank in the V birth.

22s typically came with a 20gal water tank under the rear most dinette seat. The tank is sized to fit that space. Fill for the tank is located on the gunwhale just outside.
