I just got a 1991 16' C-Dory Angler. I noticed when throttling up past 17-20 knots that the boat starts to tilt to one side or the other to a point where it is impossible to go any faster even though she has plenty more to give. Is this normal? Can I make any adjustments to correct this problem? The weight distribution is fine. Its just the faster I go the more she tilts and she has nearly zero response to turning when that happens as well. Thanks innadvance for any of your insights.

Interesting on zero replies to my question when litterally every other post has info. Would it help if I gave a donation to the page???

Good morning,

Does your 16' have trim tabs, or PermaTrim? This will help balance the boat underway. I am sure the direction the prop spins is the way the boat will lean under power. I have a PermaTrim on my 22' Cruiser. Thinking about adding trim tabs as well.

Give others a chance to look at your question and I am sure they will start posting helpful advice.

I appreciate. The reason for my previous response was somehow my original post wasn't showing up in the thread the next day. Didn't understand what was going on.

I have an angler 16, and I have not experienced what you’re describing. My motor has electric/hydraulic tilt, and I have a hydro-foil type attachment on it. The tilt angle makes a big difference in handling, even small adjustments. I guess I have noticed that it handles weird if the bow is too far down at speed. But with the bow up it planes along real nice and I can just adjust the load to keep it level. I don’t know if that helps or not, but I had noticed you weren’t getting many other replies. Good luck!

This does sound like over trim; bow down, and the boat begins to oversteer. The suggestions of trim tabs, then a foil on the motor I found was necessary on the C Dorys to get the most out of the Boat's ride. It seems frightening, because it is, and you are not in a good attitude of running. Trim the motor back to give slightly bow up configeration of running angle.

I will add my experience with my 16 Angler (Sold).
When I first got it, I had a hard time getting the motor trim to do a whole lot for the boat. I installed a Permatrim on the Honda 50 that was on it. This was the biggest improvement for that boat. I could get the boat trimmed exactly how I wanted it. I would highly recommend it for the 16! It helped with the trim as well as the steering.
Good Luck!
