    Oil Changes on long cruises

Maybe you could get a haul in the sling, buy the oil locally, borrow a place to hold it, do the change yourself, and dump the oil. Around here, a haul in the sling would be $50 or so for a large boat. I don't know if t would cost less than that for a small boat. That way, you don't have to...

    Homeland security mandates

True, but the large databases being built are restricting some people's ability to freely move. Specifically airline travel. States have done a reasonable job with boater ed, and state licenses work well enough. There is little reason to further empower the federal gvt. Get a "federal"...

    Pricing of Used C-Dorys

Boat/US had little trouble coming up with a price for a TC-24. The price they quoted matched the asking price and the price they generally seem to sell for - more or less. The particular boat I was quoted on did not have may options. No trailer, no canvas and minimal electronics. Presumably...

    Bedding down for the night

I bought a large piece from overstock.com. Just 2". Works great. We haven't put it into the V of the CD-22 because no one that sleeps there has complained. However, I found the dinette seats to be very hard for sleeping, so I lay out a piece on the dinette seats. Mike

Alcohol vs Wallas for heating & cooking

Once a Wallace starts up, the current draw is very low. It's on the order of an amp or two. Startup is 10 amps or so. If that draw causes your voltage to get too low, then you might have problems with the Wallace working correctly. Mike

To fog or not to fog that is the question

For V-8 inboards, I used to dump transmission fluid down the carb with the engine running until it stalled out, basically. But, for an outboard, I would pull the plugs, spray, and crank. Mike

help need answer soon "motor extended warranties"

A friend just ran into a problem with a 150 Yamaha. There was incorrect machining on the crank and eventually the flywheel came loose. I believe the keyway area fractured. The dealer tried an easy fix which did not work. The dealer called Yamaha for advice and Yamaha offered a whole new...

    Overhead storage closure

I have some photos in my album. I made a template, but because I used 3/4" brazillian cherry, I found that I had to relieve the backside considerably. That 's because the pilot house roof curves down towards the bow of the boat right over the shelf. In other words, the cut is not 90 deg to the...

    c dory nada values

I had a boat one time that NADA listed for perhaps 50% more than anyone I know would have paid for it (ie: NADA over-valued it.) NADA is just a rough approximation. If you obtain financing from a company that knows boats, I doubt you will have a problem. When I was looking at a TC-24, I got...

    Stereo for Constant Craving

I installed a fairly basic Sony. It supports aux inputs, and so you should be able to connect an iPod to it. I connect a DVD player. I put a small connector that ends with the 1/8" minjack from Westmarine. Seems to work well. As for speakers, I went with small speakers mounted under the...

    Help Choosing GPS/Chartplotter/Sounder/VHF

Well, I wanted something that would be easy to disconnect should I want to remove the radio. http://terminaltown.com/. The site basically sells aircraft electrical components, so it occurred to me they would have good plug connector setups. So, I order a bunch of parts from them today...

I used a cheap Radio Shack plug for my connection. Not a good idea. Comes loose way to easy. Need to find something more robust. Mike

CD-22 Cut-away, Mounting light over dinette

This turned out to be very easy to do. The thickened epoxy took quite some time to set up, and yet I used one of the faster hardeners. (West System, mixed with the pumps). Perhaps the thickener I used slowed the cure? Anyhow, the height from the dinette to the light is right around the width...
