    Permatrim Hydrofoils

I got a permatrim for my Honda 90 this winter and after 2 trips totaling 18 days on the water I am completely satisfied with it. With 80 gals of fuel and 200# of fish along with everything else in the cockpit I could get the bow of my 22' down into the seas. Money well spent

    Back Home

I'm back from 10 days in the SE AK, mainly around Hoonah. We had a great time, plenty of rain but we expected it. The ocean was a bit bumpy at times but not too bad. Boy that country was full of crab, just about everywhere we dropped a pot we got king, tanner, or dungeness. We even got 3...

    Abalone

JT, I realize pinto abs are small but I can get enough salmon and halibut to last the year in one good day, plus I'd rather eat abs.

    Abalone

Does anyone know anything about finding abalone in the Sitka/Hoonah area? I'll be heading there in a few days and am finding info about Alaska abalone pretty scarce.

    Shrimp thief

Those big stars are pretty talented to fit their bulk through the little entrance in a shrimp pot. The most common bycatch I get are greenling, I wish I got more octopus.

I get lots of those big starfish. You see all that red in the pot and think you've hit the motherload of shrimp.

New owner needs a boat hook for CD 25

I use a pole made by Rich-Mar, it uses pushbuttons and is 12' when extended. It has many attachments available, I also made an atachment for a harpoon and gaff to reduce clutter in the boat. It works well for fending off sea lions when they think your boat is a refuge from killer whales, a...

    Gel Coat Help

Well, I'm learning way more about these glass boats than I ever wanted to. I gather from this that the boat is made from polyester resin and not epoxy? If the boat was made from epoxy resin would a different type of gelcoat be used?

    Gel Coat Help

I have run into a possible problem. I have filled over 100 unused bolt holes in my boat and bought a gelcoat repair kit from West Marine to cover them. I used West system epoxy to fill the holes and the instructions with the gel coat says it doesn't stick to epoxy. Should I worry about it...

    Rubbing Compound

I've started refinishing my boat and need to use rubbing compound on highly oxidized areas. I got some rubbing compound that is brown and it leaves brown stains in some areas. Is this just where I haven't got the oxidation completely off? Is there a special rubbing compound to use on gelcoat...

    Getting stuck with a c-dory

Carry a rope-along and 100' of the proper rope and anchor and you should be fine. A parachute also works well as long as you were going upriver when you got stuck. If you do use a parachute, be prepared to cut it free if needed, they are difficult to retrieve and may drag you into more trouble.

    SE Alaska

I will be taking 2 weeks for the trip. I tried to do it in a week the year before last but after the weather stuck us in Haines for a few days we didn't have the time and ended up just staying around Haines.

    SE Alaska

Hi, next summer I want to take a trip from Haines to Juneau and maybe over near Sitka. Does anyone have any recomendations on when the best time would be to make the trip considering sea conditions and rain? Thanks
