    Visiting Floriday

I would vote for the ICW South of Stuart, Fla. You are just inside the coast and there are parks that you can find a dock and walk across the dunes to the ocean. Free anchorages are in short supply, but in Ft Lauderdale there is a city marina that is very reasonable and you can get an all day...

Stay with the 22 or go big?

I will share our story of going bigger. We had a Nimble Nomad, about 24 ft. We got the hots for a bigger trawler because of all the fun we had on our Nomad. We purchased a one year old Monk 36. It had all the goodies we thought we wanted and had to have for comfortable cruising. After 3 years...

    The time has come!

Our time was a few years ago and I still miss our C-dory. Pat's health and her worry about me falling off the boat is the drive way caused the sale. The boat has a good home on the Erie canal and is now named SNICKERS. Have fun in the next chapter of your life!

    Erie Canal Update

Anyone looking for a good guide for the western end of the canal should work with Fred. He is a good boater and I am sure he can lead you to all the good places to eat and to dock at low or no cost. The Erie Canal is one place that you will probably spend more to eat than for dockage. Most towns...

    Erie Canal Update

Most of the flood problems seem to be on the Eastern end of the canal. The Western is less of a problem with high water. We always used a State Park ramp at the top of Lake Seneca. You can store your rig for under $10. We have left our rig there for a month to six weeks several times. The nice...

    Erie Canal Update

We sure recomened th Carousel Factory in North Tonawanda. If you cross the bridge to the south side there is a wonderful restaurant that sells Beef on Wrek sandwiches with a view of a marina. Saturday nights are really full so get a spot on the wall early.

    Erie Canal Update

Things always change. Be sure to check but I hear that the locks will close at 6 Pm this season. I did not check this on the canal web site, but , go the news from another boater. The other sad change is that the Newark Diner in Newark has been sold and moved to Ohio for a rebuild. It will be...

    need advice fixing kayaks

I was in the kayak sales business and a trick we used sometimes may work for you. Cut small slivers of you kayak from the area under the cockpit cummings. You can melt it into the small holes with a small torch or a sodering iron. Just be careful with the torch or you could end up with a bigger...

Erie Canal and The Newark Diner

The time for cruising the mighty Erie Canal is soon upon us. If you can trailer your boat this is one of the nicest summer and fall cruising grounds in the East. There are over 525 miles of protected waterway and many wonderful towns to visit. Most towns have dockage for little or no cost with...

    V-Berth Memory Foam Question

We had a local mattress maker make us a memory foam mattress and insert for the V-Berth on our 22. I don't think it was all momory foam, but it sure was nice sleeping. It was a little thicker than the stock mattress. It was rather expensive appx.$6 to 700.00. Well worth the price my wife loved it.

    Boterhoming

We have spent a lot of time in Walmart lots with and with out the boat. We never ask if it is OK. If other rigs are there we assume it is OK. If you stay away from the entrance roads the noise is not usually a problem. Lot sweepers are always good for a wake up, I think they do sweep more times...

CD-22 Anyone ever add a hot shower or marine head

Keep it simple. Portapotties and solar showers work fine. If I were buying a trailer boat today I would have a potty rather that a marine head. My Monk Trawler had a full shower, it worked really well. The pain was cleaning the shower sump and replaceing the parts in the wonderful electric...

    Dinghies on the Erie Canal

Agree with all you will not need the dink. As to folding bicycles I purchased a folder from West Marine Port Runner. It has 7 speeds and workd very well. A friend of mine has a Dahon. It weights more and really does not work any better. You will need the gears.

I am want to meet a serious boy...

My wife has given me permission to have an affair with an 18 year old girl. She feels pretty safe granting me this freedom. Number one she thinks I could not find any 18 year old girl to have an affair with. AND If I do she would collect the big insurance policy. Fred

The Cruising Adventures of Wild Blue and crew...

Jim and Joan, Your pictures are always good. The picture of the red Square rigger was very nice. I also loved the picture of Izzy in the truck. We have a new cat from the SPCA. A little Main Coon is in her blood. We have had her for about 6 weeks and she is starting to train us pretty well...

    diesel added to fuel

I have never added diesel to any of my marine motors. However, years ago in the mid 50's my father had a straight 8 Pontiac. This motor had and accessory bottle of top cylinder oil under the hood. It was fed to the intake via the vacuum line and was said to lubricate the upper cylinder area. The...

The famous Newark Dinner on the Erie Canal

The Cruising Adventures of Wild Blue and crew...

HI Jim and Joan, Sorry to tell you that we had to put our 6-1/2 year old Erie Canal Swimmer, Mr Grey down last Saturday. He had a UTI and the operation may have killed him and caused a lot of pain. The good news is we have adopted a 2 year old female. She is a Maine Coon mix. She is very...

    Chesepeake anchor/East Coast set up?

We boated the bay for many years in small cruisers. The best set up we had we as a Fortress with about 15 foot of chain. You must use the mud ears on the Fortress to get it to dig into the soft bay mud. We always slept soundly after we backed the anchor into the mud. We also had good results...
