    Holding tank fluid.

We have used a prooduct we buy at Walmart. It is called Camperchem. It comes as a dry power and also as a liquid. Do not buy the one that is in the green box. The blue box stuff works best. You get about 10 bags for 7or 8 bucks. Just put a little water in the bottom of the potty and add the...

Truck & trailer storage on Florida's east coast

Ask at the Indiantown Marina if they do not store they probably know of a place. A lot further from the coast we have left our trailer and van for 4 weeks at the public launch area at LaBelle on the ICW it is just across the river from the free LaBelle free public dock. We have never had a...

    Wood core or not?

From what I have learned on this site I feel that balsa core is very good. I have read somewhere that water does not spread if it does get into a balsa core. I think it has something to do with the core being end grain. Most owners go to great lengths to avoid water getting into the core on the...

Charlie has been published in the Dec 2010 Boat US Magazine

I have been interested in the S S United States for many years. When I worked in the moving industry Mayflower Van Lines was asked to make a promo tour of the US with artifacts from the S S United States advertising an auction that was held in Norfolk where she was laying at that time. We were...

    Erie Canal

Just one more bit of info on my favorite cruising area. We have used Seneca State Park as a starting point many times. They have a decent ramp and good long term parking for your rig. The marina there is nice and a good place to stay if you get in late and the price is reasonable. We have left...

    Erie Canal

Sorry I did not see your question about the RF-246 until today. The Rosborough is a fine boat. We used ours to cruise the Chesapeake Bay and Florida areas from Ft Lauderdale across the ICW and the west coast from Naples to Captiva. Ours was powered with a V-6 Mercruiser Bravo-II. It used a...

    Porta Potti

I really like the idea of a fake outlet to use when going to Ontario. The porta potti is still the simplest of all marine sanitation devices.

    Erie Canal

Hi Kenny, My wife and I spent many years enjoying the canal. Over the years we used 3 different boats. A Nimble Nomad, an RF246 Rosbourgh and a 22 ft C-Dory. The dory was probably the best of the lot. It had the speed that was nice for the eastern end of the canal. It was seaworthy enough...

    cold weather precautions

I think that if your OB's are in the vertical position, out of the water on a lift or trailer no worries. The power heads should be completely drained in that position.

    Porta Potti

Always one of my favorite subjects. Above in this thread there was discussion about parts. Years ago I had a problem with the bellows pump and the manufacturer sent me a new one NO CHARGE. I still use a pottie on our Condo Walking trail for emergency use along the trail. But, just like on a...

    Trailering

On our 22 we just purchased a heavy duty rachet tie down strap. This worked to hold down the stern of the boat, but on our bunk trailer the boat still moved from side to side. Less than one month ago a post on this site had pictures of wooden blocks he made for holding the stern in place. Look...

    That's it - I'm DONE!

Hi Jim and Joan, What a wonderful story so far. We will order the rest of your book tonight. Mr Grey would like the book, but he cannot read. Cat people are about as nuts about cats as C-dory folks are about the boats. Tell Izzy that Mr Grey says Hello. Fred, Pat, and...

    Using the compass or not?

Our last C-Dory had a rather nice compass and I kept tract of variation and deviation. I was a member of the Power Squadron and they had navigation contests each year. The last year we competed we actually won. The other boats were larger a more stable in the rough Chesapeake chop. I can...

A Tale of Two Heads (with apologies to Charles Dickens)

Quite a report. I am sure glad that everything is working to your satisfaction. However, I am still a fan of the very simple Port-a Potty. Fred, Pat, and Mr. Grey(the cat) PS: Mr Grey prefers his litter box.

    A new motor sailor

That boat reminds me of some of the Nimble Motor Sailors that Ted Brewer designed back in the 70's. We owner the trawler version called a Nomad. It had a lot of room for a 25 footer. Powered it with a 50 HP Honda. 10 knots on a good day with a tail wind.

    Boat Scum Removal

I have used ON & OFF. It really works. I always put it on with a paint roller. Then just spray off with the hose. It is nasty stuff, smells bad and will destroy trailers if you let it on the frame. I used plastic bags to cover the trailer. Use gloves and don't breath the fumes. Fred

    Full or Empty - Winterization

I have always stored full. I use Starton and leave gas in the carbs. It always started quickly in the spring. I use the same product for my gen set in my Roadtrek. It has helped the very funky carb and avoided expensive dealer work.

A Nice Visit with Scott at Triton Marine

All really good news! If we were ever thinking of another C-Dory it sounds like the quality would be up to par. Fred, Pat and Mr. Grey(the cat)
