Green laser saves lost diver off O'ahu

I carry a "Rescue Laser". It's a red laser a little smaller than a pack of Lifesavers. Typical twist on-off, lithium battery, red beam. They also had them available with a green laser. They have a fan like beam that the instructions say should be aimed at passing search planes/helicopters...

Photos of a C Dory under construction 5/14/2013

I saw a nice 22 for sale in Juneau yesterday while I was at the marine store spending money and trying to find stuff and I must say that after all the hours and dollars I put in on maintenance and refurbs over the winter, I was thinking it might be nice to go back to the simple, reliable form...

    too cold

Winter is a good time for Jolee to be healing. Hopefully she'll be on her feet by summer. The view looks a little different out there since you were here but not all that much since you got up here pretty early and watched things green up. I am looking forward to seeing you two in 2014. I...

    too cold

Jolee, I hope you heal quickly and are soon pain free. On the positive side, you will have all of Jay's attention with him bringing you all of your favorite things. We had a better October than our last July here in Juneau. Winter was somewhat mild. Our grounds here on the shore were snow...

Good deal on Morad VHF antenna

I had one on the CD25 and one on the current boat. Just bought two more, to replace a glass one and one for a spare. They have worked well for me.

    And our new boat is...

Congratulations on the new boat. I'm sure you will continue as a C-Brat. it's been four years since we sold our CD25 and bought our new boat but C-brats is still the number one site that I check every day. There are other sites out there but none compare to the availability of experience...

RIP- U.S. Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Terrell Horne III

The loss of Chief Petty Officer Terrell Horne III is felt by us in Alaska as well. Alaska maritime communities have close ties with the Coast Guard and their families. We are angered and saddened by this senseless loss and our hearts go out to his family. More can be said about the incident...

    Video-Fords Terror Inlet & Dawes Glacier 2012

Awesome J&J. Need to get down there to Ford's Terror too. Next time you come up, maybe you should just bring the Mokai. That boat goes anywhere. I am putting in a request to the Admiralty for one. Maybe a few mods,; cabin, head, heat...Mokai-Brats.com. Keep them coming. You're saving me...

    Video-Takatz Bay-Southeast Alaska-2012

Wow. I'm glad you're planning another trip. Will have to stay tuned in so we can adjust our work schedules for some cruise time. You know the waters around here much better than I do, so I could learn a lot from you. Keep the vids coming as you get them done. I know they are a lot of time...

    Video-Takatz Bay-Southeast Alaska-2012

J&J, very neat video. Gotta get out there some day. Snowed pretty good here today but overall not too bad a winter so far. October is usually our worst weather month but I dare say it was not much worse than July was albeit a little cooler.

Southeast Alaska 2012 with Jay, Jo-Lee & the Hunkydory

I tried to hail you again yesterday and got answered but it was the other Hunky Dory. Man, is it ever raining in Juneau right now. Hope you are staying dry. Cruised around some today on mostly calm water but lots of fog and dense low clouds. Really looking forward to a sunny day.

I know of an unadvertised 25 for sale here in Juneau. PM me if you want to get in touch with the owner.

Southeast Alaska 2012 with Jay, Jo-Lee & the Hunkydory

Oh yeah. If Jolee's vertigo acts up too much, you can always put her on a float plane to Juneau and I can pick her up. Less than an hour in the air might not be so bad if she's having a really tough time on the water. Just putting it out there as an option so you know you have one.

Southeast Alaska 2012 with Jay, Jo-Lee & the Hunkydory

Hey Jay and Jolee, Been following your adventures and thought you might be headed toward Elfin Cove soon. I tried hailing you a couple times over the last few days and shortly after my hail this afternoon, I heard another boat calling the Hunky Dory and figured they were further out toward you...

SPOT distress failure in Sailboat Aegean loss

Ok, while we're on this subject, I've been following Jay and Jolee on Hunky Dory via Spot and was considering getting one because it at least is useful in some regards. I have not been, however, convinced that I would want it for anything but a fun toy and progress tracker for those at home. On...

Southeast Alaska 2012 with Jay, Jo-Lee & the Hunkydory

Well J&J, looks like you picked about the crappiest May in history to start your trip but just think how glorious it will be with the sun out. I made it as far out as Pt. Adolphus last week and managed to get a small halibut on board. It was glassy calm in Icy Strait and wicked rough coming...

Southeast Alaska 2012 with Jay, Jo-Lee & the Hunkydory

Looks like Hunky Dory finally made it out to the gulf and have arrived at White Sulphur Hot Spring.

Southeast Alaska 2012 with Jay, Jo-Lee & the Hunkydory

It's hard when its wet outside and inside too. Hope it gets better soon. Drier here in Juneau but still relatively cold. Maybe you can increase your spot check-in interval while you are on the Gulf coast. That's some pretty technical cruising out there and no radio communication for much of...

Southeast Alaska 2012 with Jay, Jo-Lee & the Hunkydory

J&J, Are you still sitting in Pelican? We've had pretty crappy weather in Jnu but it let up a little today. Sun even poked out a little. We are going to venture out of Auke Bay for a little while and see if we can find some whales. Looked really rough out there yesterday and there are small...

Southeast Alaska 2012 with Jay, Jo-Lee & the Hunkydory

Looks like J & J headed out to the Gulf of Alaska and didn't like what they saw, turned around and headed for friendlier waters and parked it for a while.
