    Know a reputable commercial outfit?

Dutch Harbor is the closest landfall to Hawaii. Its about 120 miles or so closer than SanFrancisco.

    Big oil wins another round

Dan Said: Yeah one's called fossil fuel and the other is called sewage. I was laughing so hard that Colleen thought there was something wrong with me and came running.

    Big oil wins another round

Dan :| I don't necessarily like participating in threads where C-Dories are not discussed. That said. There are several ways around this. One; Pay the prisoners the same wages as oil field workers but deprive them of ever being able to spend any of it, say like on a C-Dory. That...

    Big oil wins another round

We could use the existing infrastructure at Prudhoe Bay as a storage facility for "non-law abiding Americans" when the time comes to move oil harvesting operations further away. It would save bazillions in tear down costs and avoid having to build new prisons. And, no fences would be needed...

    Big oil wins another round

Dan, Dan, Dan. With all of your knowledge and experience, one would think that you would be aware of the difference between "all natural" carbon and the kind that comes from underground. :embarrased

    paper charts vs: navionic chips

Dan, Is it true in the event of losing all navigation equipment at one time that you will rely on the premise that moss will only grow on the north side of your boat to get you back to Fairbanks?

To Fridge or not to Fridge - that is the question

I like our Norcold refer but I would put it somewhere else other than beneath the helm seat.. I am likely going to move it so I can do some mods and install some sort of air ride seat in the near future. Otherwise, it works great for the small stuff you don't want to leave the cabin for...

    Favorite Small Boat Harbor

Dog-on-it Dan. You think the bugs are bad in Bareflanks, you should see them here in Southeast Alaska. They leave dings in the gel coat. On top of the constant bear problems, we have the bigger S.E. porcupines that I am told actually track down the dogs to quill them for sport. That says...

It is Christmas.. Is it still politically correct?

Yep, sure would be nice to have a spot free of religious and political strife.

    Oil Changes on long cruises

I've done it in the water, using my oil suction pot and long tube that goes down the dipstick. Worked well for me on the 25 and was pretty clean, didn't get any in the water. You are welcome to borrow mine if by chance your change interval should fall or be planned for when you are in Juneau...

    winterizing questions

In the winter we leave the motor down in the (usually) warmer than air water. There are lots of boats with outboards berthed year round in S.E. Alaska with nothing special done to them. Make sure the zincs are good.

Chartering my 22' C-Dory in SE Alaska

B~C, Elfin Cove is doable in a 16 but you would have to watch the weather very closely and pick the right time. You can, and likely would need to take additional fuel but can stop in Hoonah and Glacier Bay for fuel if you have to. You would need to be aware of safe harbors in case it got...

    Fenders and how many?

We carry 2 of the sausage variety, can't remember the size, we have some that are about 18 inches and some about 22" long. We usually take the larger as well as a good sized round ball bouy. Anyone we'd be willing to raft with also has fenders. The ball is the best thing we have used to...

Best Single Power for a CD-25

We have a Suzuki 140. It is usually adequate for most purposes but if we needed to repower, it would be with a larger engine, likely a 200. There were times this summer when we needed the extra power. A friend recently replaced the 140 on his CD25 with a 200 and gave a very favorable report.

110 yanmar for 25 ranger a complete horror story

In all fairness, it seems to me this IS primarily a dealer and a Ranger problem. They should deal with the Yanmar issues. They have each received payment for goods delivered, inluding the Yanmar THEY sold and they should pony up. If there is any possibility of them getting a hold of a new...

    Heat wave

We are having a heat wave in Juneau too. Absolutely beautiful last few days. Downright hot at times. Must have been close to 80 yesterday. Now I understand why some people want a center window that opens up.

    Furuno Radar Trouble

We had a loose thread for sure. Tangled up in the antenna. We now have a thread in the garbage as I would have had to have a loose screw to leave it in. Got the belt from my friendly neighborhood Furuno repair man.

    Furuno Radar Trouble

Well, I think I found the fix and it was actually pretty simple. The belt streched just enough to cause the motor to bind and stop. I replaced the belt and so far she works fine and sounds normal again and will hopefully remain usable for our trip this weekend. Thanks for the input and...

    Furuno Radar Trouble

Thanks for the repy. I am trying to limit how much I mess with it but if I can fix something simple and get through the summer would be great. The more I think about it, it seems like the antenna is out of synch and that is what causes a binding and eventual catch making it just stop. It...
