Raising the roof on a 16 Cruiser!

The convertible conversation would be more gutsy than the fixed lift. But, it really has me thinking!

Raising the roof on a 16 Cruiser!

The convertible popup concept is intriguing. It would keep the classic look but be a functional lift when needed. Might even work with 4 hydraulic/gas lifts to make it go up automatically. then a canvas closure maybe isinglass or screen. Leakage would be a concern. Really like all the input. Got...

Raising the roof on a 16 Cruiser!

Thought about buying up several times. Even pursued it on three vessels for sale. But, recently the wife and I gave it some serious thought and decided for the next several years, the 16 will service us well! We live 12 miles up the Biloxi River. Most of our spur of the moment joy rides are to...

Raising the roof on a 16 Cruiser!

Really don't have any intentions to walk/stand on the roof, but I don't want to do anything that would risk integrity of the roof structure. You think coring this project would be best, of multiple layers of the appropriate glass?

Raising the roof on a 16 Cruiser!

Understand that Seabeagle! Once this is done I plan on button tucking the entire cabin with foam and vinyl (like a custom van headliner). I will double pad the aft bulk head. That way I will less likely require stiches when I forget to duck!

Raising the roof on a 16 Cruiser!

If I raise the center only I was going to use 12 inch strips of masonite (as thataway mentioned) screwed to the outside of the removed top to make a mockup of the final product for fit. That way I am thinking I will be able to see how much more of the roof needs to be removed for the "New" final...

Raising the roof on a 16 Cruiser!

I will wait until fall/winter myself, but my cousin does a lot of fiberglass work on the side (basically second job) and he wants me to do the homework before we consider tackling the project. Repowering Sweet Pea this week, and the 98' 50HP will be part of a little "Old Southern" cousin to...

Raising the roof on a 16 Cruiser!

I am really just looking for more standing room. Ceiling height is adequate then seated, I just need a little more height for that early morning standing stretch. Or when situations require me standing at the helm.

Raising the roof on a 16 Cruiser!

Exploring the possibility! Anyone ever "Raise the Roof" on a 16? Not necessarily the entire roof, but at least the raised center section. I am considering this mod and wondered if anyone has done it before. No since in re-inventing the wheel. I'm looking to at least raise either the entire...

Up Gradeing our vee Berth Foam mattress

I just replaced our entire mattress foam this weekend. I purchased a 4 inch King size memory foam mattress from Walmart. (2 inches true memory foam 2 inches open cell foam). Took the old mattress out of the Sunbrella cover and used it as a template. After marking the pattern on the new foam, I...

    '89 C-Dory on ebay

I took a stab at an automatic bid max of $10100.00 but once my initial max was hit very quickly I just decided to sit back and watch until today. $15000.00 was the most I could pull out of an un-named part of my anatomy. So all I could do was watch and learn!

    Hydraulic steering for the 16

Had it on a 22 center console. Loved it! Installed it myself. Took about 3 hours. (South Mississippi laid back slooow hours). Hardest part was convincing the wife she had to help me to bleed the lines. It was a cinch! Just follow the instructions. If I ever have to replace my steering it will be...

    Selling your boat safely

It does take an unusual amount of trust. I think cash is best for a long distance exchange. That is what we chose to do when going to Missouri from the MS Gulfcoast to purchase our C Dory. Local bank confirmed the money was real. I never disclosed it was to be a cash transaction. Somethings just...

Looking for new windows for a 16ft C-Dory

Are you talking about the port and starboard windows opening from forward as opposed to opening from aft? My port and starboard windows open from aft and I am in the process of changing the way it opens (I want it to open from forward). That way air will flow better when under way. Right now...

correct height for outboards while traveling

I don't think you can compare transom stress of trailering to the stresses of being on the water under way. Unless you are jumping logs in the river. My mechanic would disagree with yours. You just have to read, research, and make your own mind up. Watch the engine on the next trailered boat...

correct height for outboards while traveling

If you do trailer with the motor trimmed up, you really need a support. There is a lot of stress on the transom due to flexing with the motor trimmed up and trailering. A support device will eliminate most of the flexing as long as the transom is strapped down as well. In my opinion the lock...

    Transom Core Material?

I recently read on, C Brat, that at some point the transom coring changed from Balsa to a different material. Does anyone know when this occurred, or if this occurred? If so what was the material? I have a 1998 16 Cruiser and the coring of the entire vessel is sound. But, I just happen to be...
