C-Dory in the Seattle Boat Show

Foggy, Thanks for sharing your boat. I've been looking forward to seeing one of these for a long time. I have one of the originals and sincerely believe you have the finest pocket cruiser ever made. The build quality of the new C-dorys is the best yet. Enjoy and thanks again for sharing.

    Fujinon 14x40 Stabilized Binoculars....

That wasn't the case this time Joe. I was at Cabelas and both were in stock. I was considering getting the Fugi model but my cheapness was winning out. The 'sending in for yearly calibration' comment plus using more Cabelas points, pushed me towards the Cannon. The Cannons are good but the Fugi...

    Fujinon 14x40 Stabilized Binoculars....

When I was shopping for a pair of image stabilizer binoculars, the salesman told me that the 5 degree variety binoculars needed to be sent in to the factory and calibrated yearly. I therefore bought a pair of the 1 degree Cannons. I saw there was no mention of having to recalibrate the 5 degree...

On-Off Switches for Sounder and Heading Sensor

Bill, Like you I have Furuno. What I have done to alleviate the problem you described was to feed a dedicated fuse block strictly for the electronics through a switch. The switch (push-pull, single pole) is fed from one of the fuses in the fuse block at the front helm. When I hit the switch, all...

New Affordable Boat Act (A Joke)

If a C-Brat posts a liberal opinion, he is castigated for bringing a political opinion to a boating site. If a C-Brat posts a conservative opinion, he is cheered on and the liberal C-Brats are called thinned skinned. Just the facts.

    New Venture Hull Shape

I weighed the boat on the two axles. I backed up and disconnected the trailer from the truck and set it on the trailer jack. I pulled the truck ahead. I then put a 6X6 on end under the end of the trailer tongue (where the ball attaches) and took the pressure off the jack to get a true tongue...

Mystery electrical system problem - not sure how to proceed.

Sunbeam, Is it possible that you have a parallel connection downstream from your "safety hub" that allows part of the current for your trim relays to pass through the fuse that you are having trouble with? If you have a parallel circuit, the current will be divided over both branches according...

Would you buy agin or go another way ?

CFISHN, If you're buying new, I would recommend the venture hull for a smoother ride and better fuel economy. As far as aluminum hulls go, it's not a question whether but a question of when the hull pits and corrodes from saltwater use.

    23 Venture performance numbers.

Foggy, I posted my fuel numbers years ago when I first got my boat. They are somewhere in the archives. I averaged around 4mpg from Swantown (Olympia) to Everett. Don't exactly remember. Some of the sleuths on the site can probably find them. Forrest

ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) plug trips....

Boris, I respectfully disagree. If you wire in series, you will drop 120 volts across two or more different loads. Also all receptacles would have to see a load for the circuit to work. I suspect you are confusing daisy chaining with parallel. All outlets, plugs, or receptacles, must be wired...

ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) plug trips....

localboy, Make sure the the plugs, which I assume you mean u-ground receptacles, are wired in parallel from the "load" side of the GFCI. Make sure that the ground wire on both receptacles is not touching the neutral terminal on the receptacle. GFCI work on the principle that the current in the...

Slot on south jetty at Westport

I had two bad ebbs last week and the bar had standing breaking waves so I crossed the sunken jetty at the end of the south jetty. There really isn't a 'slot' but there is an area of calm water between the end of the south jetty and waves breaking over the sunken jetty. The calm area appears to...
