Raymarine EV-100 and need for rudder position indicator

Ken, et al, Raymarine did get back to me. They said the ACU-100 needed to be replaced with a 200, and the EV-1 & P70R needed to be sent back to them for upgrade. I can't tell you how much I like dealing with their manager, Winston. I've never had better customer service. Sometimes things work out

Raymarine EV-100 and need for rudder position indicator

I did contact Raymarine and found that the software versions were out date, but the remarkable thing was that they thought that the ACU-100 was possibly under-sized and said they would replace it with a larger ACU-200 at no charge if the software doesn't handle the issue. How cool is that!

    EV-100 Autopilot

Thank you. I have not done the software upgrade. I will call Raymarine today to see if this could be the cause, although I'd be surprised if that wasn't the first thing they asked when we spoke with them yesterday

Raymarine EV-100 and need for rudder position indicator

Thanks Bob, the tech said that without the feedback from the actual rudder position, the system is reactive rather than proactive. Is that what you're saying? Your second paragraph is beyond my understanding and skill set. Do you think a position indicator would help me? We're looking a a...

Raymarine EV-100 and need for rudder position indicator

Peter, LOL, that's what we called it too, and then I talked with a charter captain who had the same issue, and he called it a Crazy Ivan also. That's what I called it to my tech today, he got it right away

Raymarine EV-100 and need for rudder position indicator

I've had my AP for over a year, and it's just not trustworthy. The boat will occasionally head hard off to port (10-15 degrees) and finally respond and come back on track. The indicator on the display shows a hard turn to starboard, but there's no movement at the engine. My initial...

    Naples Florida advice please

My wife and I are taking our 25 down for a couple of weeks in early February, and we're completely unfamiliar with there. We mostly just want to enjoy some warm weather, eat at some nice restaurants and explore the general vicinity. Is it reasonable to be able to take her out on the gulf and...

Cruising the Chesapeake Bay to Washington DC - any tips?

We used to live in Alexandria Virginia, so we're quite familiar with the Bay and the Potomac. We spent a few weeks up there on the boat last year, and we're doing it again this summer. The bay can get pretty hairy on occasion, particularly down near the mouth, so keep an eye on the weather...

    toasted some wires.

This is kind of scary to me. If it was mine, I would torque down all connections to the bus(es), and trace EVERY circuit to ensure that they're properly fused. If you're not absolutely certain of what you're doing, I'd call in help

A dead short should have popped the fuse. Make sure there is one

I have a rear view mirror, and on my 25 the field of vision is way too narrow

Thanks John, do you think 120 degrees is wide enough for the boat?

    Rear view video question/help

Thanks Bob, appreciate your endorsement of the camera, and Jarobi, I appreciate the input. As for the FLIR, I think I'll save that for my future Hinckley. I should be able to afford it in 2050. I'll only be 102

    Rear view video question/help

Always appreciate your responses Bob, and thank you Eric for the GoPro thought (how do you like it?) We get WiFi from our Elypsis Jetpack. It converts cellular data to WiFi. It is battery powered, but I can also plug it into my inverter. Here's a link to the product, which says that it's...

    Rear view video question/help

I kept on plugging and found what seems to be a nice one from Rage Cams. I'll need to hard wire it to my Garmin Chartplotter, but this looks like it will do the trick
