Can a C-dory be too Light?

I think the only place you might want to add some weight would be up in the bow. I took the plunge last winter and cut out a hole under the vberth to see if my 1981 had any floatation. It didn't so I have cut 3 hatches in for storage. We use the boat mostly for commuting to our cabin but I think...

    Marbin 31

My 1981 "Hunky Dory" still has the Hunky Dory decal on it with the Marben Marine name, address and phone number on it. Jimbo

Power for a New 22 Angler

I just upgraded my 1981 classic from a 88hp 2 stroke to a 115 4 stroke and am really happy with it. Nice to have that extra hp if I need it, nice to run at 1/2 throttle and way better fuel economy. I'd go with the 115. Jimbo

    Catch 22

Catch 22 Sounds good. Send me a PM with the costs for material and labour. That would be great if I could get your mockup I'm not in a panic, summers coming and we all want to enjoy our boats. Jimbo

    newbie needs advice

Mikey I just repowered my 1981 from a 88hp johnson 2 stroke to a 2007 115 Mercury 4 stroke EFI. I can't find a plate on my boat so I just talked to my insurance about the change. They are OK with it. What an improvement... Starts and idles nice and quiet, I am only running about 1/2 WOT now...

    Catch 22

Catch 22 I just noticed you are in Seattle. That's an easy afternoon drive down and back for us. As long as I have some sort of bill to show at the border I won't have a problem bringing them back. Are you interested in building another set of tanks? The fact that they can move around a bit is...

    Catch 22

Catch 22 Congrats on the tanks, they look really good. In my 1981 I am currently using 22 litre gas cans but would like to go to built in. Apparently the early boats had a built in tank under the motor well but I use that area for my trim tab pump and fuel filter and for misc storage. I know...

    Trailer winch

I've got the 912 on my trailer which is a 1981 and I assume it came with the trailer when new. It still works great, especially when I am running the boat onto the trailer and Sher is doing the winch work. I carry a spare battery in the back of the truck that the winch power cord is connected...

    C-Dory Quality Control

Bob; If you are serious about a sat phone, we have a Iridium that we use up at our cabin on Harrison lake as there is a big hill between us and the nearest cell tower. We buy a "Northern Lights" package that is good for 6 months and costs 210.00 That includes 200 minutes of call time. I renew it...

Repairing small drill holes in hull

Siddfynch I don't mean to hijack this topic but I just had a look at your photos and it looks like you are missing about 6" of rubrail rubber on the starboard side at the bow. Is that the case? If so, I have a 1981 classic and am missing that exact same amount in the same place. Any idea where...

    Garmin Bluechart/G2/Vision Compatibility

Marco422 Thanks for the info. I'll make sure I get one of those cards with it. Looking at the coverage, I'll go with the lesser of the 2, which will hopefully be cheaper. Tnx, Jimbo

    Garmin Bluechart/G2/Vision Compatibility

Marco 422 I am looking to pickup a 545 and am wondering if the local chart goes as far east as Harrison lake where we have our cabin. West Marine says they THINK so but aren't sure. Any way you can check this? Tnx, Jimbo

    Xantrex chargers

I am adding a second house battery that is exactly the same as my original. I currently have a Xantrex charger Model TC10TB which is now charging my house battery and starting battery. Can I add the second house battery (just parallel to first) and keep the current charger or do I have to go...

    Boat survey

Ken; Not sure which dealer you are buying from but if it's Galleon Marine in Langley, they are no longer a Cdory dealer. If it's the boat I think it is, I would suggest you buy it bare bones and get it rigged out at a dealer close to you. Galleon lost their dealership because they were unable to...

Tow Boat Sinks 65 ft Cruiser on the Tennessee River

There was a similar accident that happened in BC waters a few years back. A "new captain" on his new boat was heading out to see our annual summertime fireworks show. and drove between the tug and the barge. The tow cable got hung on the prop and rudder and actually rolled the boat. I think 4...
