Mike's UV Super Scent vs Glo Scent vs UV Gel Scent

You are, for the most part. They all do essentially the same thing: mask human scent. However, the gel vs. the oil can be used in different applications. For instance, the gel is better for sticking to the back of a spoon or stuffed inside a hootchie, where the oil can be injected...

technique for launching a c dory?

One thing I didn't see suggested reference roller trailers is after backing down until the winch is even with the water's edge, secure the stern line foward to a cleat on the dock. Unhook the safety chain and unwind the winch until the stern line tightens up and you can unhook the winch strap...

    Public Apology

On the subject of mellowing as we age, I'm not so sure if I mellowed out when I entered my 50s, or just got too lazy to fight about anything. A great line I read many years ago: "Would the boy you were be proud of the man you've become?" I ponder that question often during periods of...

Use of Scotty Trap-eeze & compatability with Fish-On Mou

We would, but I'll be out at Westport starting a week of salmon hunting. The tides that week are just too good to pass up.

Use of Scotty Trap-eeze & compatability with Fish-On Mou

The Scotty Trap-eze most likely will not fit in the Fish-on rod holder mount. However, there is a very good possibility that the cogged ends will mate up. You may be able to use the Fish-on part to go into the mount, and then mate the Scotty part where it pivots and is held together with a...

    Trolling with a 60

Something to remember is that the speed indicated on your GPS is speed over ground (SOG), not the speed through the water (STW). When trolling for salmon it's the speed through the water that makes your lure/bait act correctly. For instance, when using flashers like Pro Troll or Qcove the...

Fishing boat sinks ( we need a new forum for boat accidents)

It's not the boating that's dangerous, it's the stupid boaters. ;)

    Kings in South Puget Sound

Was that a Chambers Creek fish? Interesting that although you target areas with baitfish, the king hit a (relatively) small fly that sounds more like a shrimp pattern. Kudos also for the single handed netting. Hooking any 20+ pound chinook in Puget Sound is a great day, to do so with a flyrod...

    Funky depth return-Garmin 740S

Might have been an uncharted pinnacle. Shoulda stopped and dropped a couple jigs to pick up some sea bass or lings. :D

    Waveheight, NOAA, NBDC, Weather, etc

I use this site: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/marine/zone/west/sewmz.htm It allows me to see the forecast for the particular area I'm going to fish, whether it be inside (near the casino), or farther out around the South Bowl or GH Buoy. Sunday I'll probably hit both inside and out. I check...

    Towing an inflatable dinghy

Thanks, everyone. I plan on towing when I'm too lazy to secure the dinghy aloft for short distances. The dinghy manual illustrates to tow with two lines; one from the starboard stern to the port bow, and another from the port stern to the starboard bow, essentially criss-crossing.

    Towing an inflatable dinghy

Does anyone tow their inflatable dinghy behind a 22? Perhaps not all the time, but for short trips of several nm? Is there a recommended maximum speed? How far back should the dinghy be when towing? The dinghy has an inflatable floor and keel, if that makes a difference.

Bilge question - where is the water coming from?

In my boat, those two holes are used for screws that hold the panel to the deck.

    Johns Sporting Goods Everert Washington

A discussion of which downrigger is best could become another twins vs. single thread. :-) I prefer Scotty electrics because it's what I've used the most, and currently own. Here in the PNW they're almost the de facto downrigger of choice. Some of that is simply because they're made in...

And now the starboard engine won't start!

I have a Merc 90 and had similar intermittent problems with the starter. I pulled the starter and took it to a starter repair guy for testing. Found the solenoid to be bad. Bought a new solenoid and all was good. Most shops will diagnosis something like free if you buy the needed part from...

    Interesting 22' in AK

Considering some of the Rangers I work with now, I'm impressed you can do math at all, let alone teach it. :beer Yeah, it's all in good fun. My current boss is a former commander of the 2d Ranger Batt at Ft. Lewis. I know he was stationed in AK for a bit. The name Okita ring a...

    Skagit Orca and C-Brats

There's been a Skagit Orca sitting at Pleasant Harbor the last several weeks during shrimp season. I complimented the owner on his boat, and he told me it was hull #1! Still a great looking boat, too. He told me the builder is now working at Ocean Sport.

    Interesting 22' in AK

Okay, a couple problems with this statement. First, the Air Force doesn't do anything hard. Secondly, while the AF is made up of boys and girls, the Army is filled with men and women. Hoo-ah! 8)
