I hope that you sanded down the rails before staining. Sanding may also remove the dark stain. Mine were in similar shape. I took them off boat and sanded them to get back to natural wood color and then applied couple of coats of Cetol natural teak. I think you'll like that color.

UPDATE on this saga. This Spring I ran a bead of 4200 along the entire upper edge of the starboard rub rail. Since then have had very little to no water through rain falls.Will do port rail next time boat is out of harbor. Apparently whatever cause of water intrusion lies under rub rail. Very...

ZERO. Was city boy all my life till moved to AK. But always loved fishing (fresh water) so living on ocean here made boat a no-brainer. Still learning. Having someone show me ropes was essential.
