    Battery charging

Unfortunately, I must disagree with my good friend Bob Austin and the statements he just made. As an example; "diodes do not drop voltage, resistors do". The use of a "multiple terminal" (3 or more in this case) battery charging isolator is the exact device our friend Tom needs to employ...

    Battery charging

Use a three terminal battery isolator and wire it as instructed. If the onboard charger is without faults and operates as it should, the "system" will work passively and not need maintenance. And it will not need to be switched off since the isolator uses "one-way" solid state switches known...

    Lake Mead is Gone!!!

The point here Harvey is that "no water" means "no boating"! I'm glad you got the point but "others" who look in on these threads sometimes think the road must end at waters edge!

How to compression check Honda BF40?

Any time you are evaluating the condition of a high hour four stroke engine, doing a cylinder leakage test (warm) will provide a better overall assessment of the combustion chambers condition.

    Towing a 13' Whaler w/ a 22 Cruiser

SSilver; You might consider towing the Boston Whaler off either stern quarter. Using several fenders and properly rigged with breast and spring lines, you will have control of the situation. Make sure you use dacron lines, not nylon, when rigging the tow.

Dealer balking at idea of epoxy plugs repower installation

After all the fiberglass work you have done using the "West System", you should have no problem dealing with the "holes" properly! I would suggest obtaining a "bolt hole pattern" for the new Honda and after removing the old engine, see where the new holes will be located. If they are even...

How much should an engine compression test cost?

Jon, "Colby Smith", who is a very knowledgable, experienced, and active C-brat lives in Madison, WI. He is retired and most likely would provide answers to the many questions you have yet to ask. Send him a note to see if he has the time to assist with the evaluation. I'm down near Janesville...

How much should an engine compression test cost?

Jon, Depending on the number of hours showing on the meter, you might also want to do a "cylinder leakage" test while assessing the "condition" of the motor. You also need to consider the age of boat and whether the original motor was replaced at some subsequent date. Have the seller provide a...

    Fuel fill bonding wire

Clay, "Most" fuel dispenser nozzles that are for public use are bonded (grounded) internally. However, that does not mean all static electrical sparks are prevented from occurring. Because our small boats are not required to have bonding throughout the vessel, the factory does not install this...

fuel tank question and newer engine overheat alarm question

The entire fuel system is "open" to the atmosphere which brings to mind another possibility. Check the "tank vents" to be certain there are no restrictions in either line, both port and starboard. Since you are currently underway, what options have you to remedy these issues other than a tow?

fuel tank question and newer engine overheat alarm question

With regards to question #1, it is likely the fuel tank being near empty may have picked up setiment from the bottom of tank. This would cause the bulb to experience a collapse. Remove the bulb from fuel line and apply light air pressure toward the fuel tank. Reassemble the bulb and try to...
