    few questions about my 19

Yo Richard!! Welcome & congratulations on the 19. When I bought my 19 there were numerous high water marks in the v berth, along with about 8" of standing water. With a flashlight I noticed water stains below the anchor rode compartment & the rode was damp. I removed the clamshell on the cover...

Who was the manufacturer of manual windshield wipers?

There were 110 customer reviews of the sea dog wiper. I went thru the first 5 or 6 pages. Many said they thought it was rather cheaply made & didn't last long. Made in China could come into play there but for the price I could afford to replace. There were also glowing reviews as well! Thanks again

Who was the manufacturer of manual windshield wipers?

I would like a wiper for the center tilt out window. Would I have to have a hole in the glass or would it work if it were mounted below with a hole through the fiberglass or would that interfere with enter window operation? Has anyone done this?

    USS Fitzgerald

Bob, correct! In my day there was always ( while underway) an 8 man rotating watch that rotated around the ship every half hour. on the bridge, a conn officer, an officer of the deck, helmsman, phone talker, messenger, port & stb lookouts that report anything & everything, also two radar men in...

    USS Fitzgerald

I'm with Bob on the electronic hacking. As a Vietnam era sailor, homeported on a station ship in Yokosuka Japan & standing underway watches, my mind is compleatly boggled as to how anything with a light on it could possibly get within 10 to 12 miles of the ship. Where the hell was everybody...

Opinions on fuel tank located in cabin?

Mark, I second the balanced boat idea! The 19s are notoriously stern heavy. I finally put about 100 lbs of lead ingots under my anchor rode. The ride is greatly improved.

    Stuck sliding window

I hate those latches. They always take a little violence to unlatch to slide the window open. At sea one day the port side latch just popped off trying to open, you know where it ended up!! I replaced it with a piece of aluminum angle adhered with 5200. Never had a problem since. Now the...

    Fish & Chips

Chromer, How about a list of the worst fish & chips. At a local restaurant (unnamed) ordered fish & chips. Mostly breading, grease & a little grey plug of something fishey. My commercial fisher friend said it was skate wing plugs the size of a thin scallop. Disgusting !! Last time for that...

    Get home motor use

Jack, I wholeheartedly agree. My auxiliary motor has considerably more time on it at home than on the water. I start and run both motors at least every two weeks and run until warm. The worst thing to do is let motors sit unused until needed.

    Get home motor use

Oh ya!! 12 miles south in heavy fog about 200 yards off the beach & very few boats out that day & the closest 20+ miles north. that's when that get home motor cost was very well worth every penny. The problem was caused by the constant leakage past the wrong lazzerate hatches onto batteries &...

New 22' Cruiser Owner Here - Question on the RPMs of Johnson

I have a 70 hp on my 19 & am sometimes dissapointed in performance, but only in a following sea, tanks always full. We have a big reef with lumpy water here so wot speed generally not possible. Sounds like you have quite a boatload & with a 70 on a 22 I wouldn't expect much more. If I were to...

    2003 Suzuki BF90 Problems

Horrors! I have a 2004 df70. Kind of disconcerting haveing a motor with 450 hrs being referred to as a "vintage motor of that era" !!! Got my fingers crossed.

Getting Daydream on a Plane on the Loop

Everyone has heard of the problems with weight distribution associated with the design flaws of the 19.i like to keep my fuel tanks full to sidestep condensation problems but that compounds stern weight concerns. I like to keep about 100 lbs plus,of lead in the bottom of my anchor locker to...

Mounting bracket for get home engine

I have a 9.9 Yamaha high thrust mounted on a garlick adjustable. I use a 2" ratchet strap from the transome tie down to a u bolt on the forward side of the splashwell backed up with a piece of plywood on the underside to cinch it up tight so it doesn't bounce. No problem!

    Single 60hp on a 22 Cruiser?

My 19 also came with a "70 hp maximum sticker" again I say I feel underpowered but only in following seas. Other than that I'm satisfied. With our St George reef we have an upwelling of cooler water & associated lump that makes higher speeds uncomfortable.

    Liability query

Oh ya...by the by. On the liability/reliability thing. After reading replies & considering the fact that i myself have had some Reliability experiences, & the fact that at 73 & my hearing is not what it once was, its entirely possible that the man in the other boat may well have said"...
