09/15 - Lake Powell September Cruise

I'm thinking I might do most of the full two week period from the 15th on. I wonder what dates the group anticipates hanging around Oak Canyon this year. Sounds like the 18th or so is the Wahweap meet. I might be up the lake by then. Or I could drive trough Arizona on the way and stop for a...

09/15 - Lake Powell September Cruise

I don't know how many other people were watching the water level reports, but the Castle Rock Cut touched water from both sides about 6 am on the 6th. It's rising almost a foot per day lately, so in about a week I think they'll be running boats through there. Good news for us. I like the lake...

09/15 - Lake Powell September Cruise

This should be a great year there. More water than the last several years and the Castle Rock cut will take 12 lumpy and not-so-scenic miles off the trip for those of us starting at Wahweap. I entered the contest to guess the date for Castle Rock cut to get wet and I don't know what I'll do if...

    Stretching a 22

If the extension adds displacement it changes some of what I said. The original post seemed to show an extension that only moved the engine without extending the waterline or planing surface. Maybe I'm not seeing this one right, but the extensions I've seen at boat shows do not add displacement...

    Stretching a 22

Also, the existing transom probably isn't designed for all the extra torque that would be applied by that extension. This is probably a bigger concern than the balance I was originally worried about. The 22 C-Dory is a pretty ideal design. I'd be AWFULLY careful about basic changes. Details...

    Stretching a 22

I'd guess the boat will be very tail-heavy with that addition and you won't like the result at all. My 22 cruiser has a Honda 90 and a 9.9 and it's a little tail-heavy I think. Even with the 90 trimmed all the way down I need some trim tab deflection to run at something like a 4 degree bow up...

09/15 - Lake Powell September Cruise

Previous post: "one of nature's masterpieces"...... Funny. It's a man made lake. Just kidding around. I knew what you meant. It's a beautiful place and I'm looking forward to it again this year. I've been looking at some of my pictures and trying to imagine what it will look like with 20 ft...

    Four Blade Results

18 times 3 divided by 3.5 is about 15.5, so your 14 kt result is slow and it sounds like the 4 blade prop is a less efficient design or one of the props is pitched inaccurately. In general, fewer blades are always more efficient. I've read some books on props. Two blades are best. You make them...

    boat height limits?

I did a little searching the forums but didn't find a thread on boat heights. I looked up the Erie canal website and they show 15.5 ft as the lowest clearance. I'm about to put a radar on top of a 18" or 24" mast or arch and it got me thinking about the subject. This is on a CD22. Also, road...

    C-Dory NMMA Certification

Okay, Bob, you've had enough retirement and boat cruising. Time to buy the company and get back to work, slacker.... :wink Jeff

    C-Dory NMMA Certification

I tried to do some reading online regarding NMMA certification. I didn't find much yet. It looks like it could very well be a fairly useless rubber stamp program that requires the manufacturer to give a bunch of money to a consulting organization in order to become certified. This ends up being...

09/15 - Lake Powell September Cruise

Sheesh! I did some more Googling, using different terms and I discovered that Horseshoe bend is just south of the dam and Page, AZ by about five miles. http://www.gcollier.com/Horseshoe_Bend_ ... River.html shows a nice picture. It's probably rare to find a photograph. I'll bet it's only been...

    Garmin Radar

I just received one of the new Garmin antennas. I have a 4212 chartplotter and the antenna has two wires for power and an ethernet plug for the back of the chartplotter. Couldn't get much easier than that. I plunked it on the roof and fired it up in the driveway. Seems to work, although I don't...

09/15 - Lake Powell September Cruise

Hi, I've never been to Horseshoe Bend. I see a Great Bend of the San Juan River on a mapping program I have. Is that it. I looked at a couple Powell maps and charts but haven't found "Horseshoe Bend" yet. Is it about 30 miles up the San Juan River from the main lake channel? Is it about 6 miles...

    08/17 - 08/23 - 2008 Catalina Island Adventure in Paradise

I just realized I hadn't signed up for this yet. That's three total for this year  . August Catalina, September Lake Powell and October Santa Barbara. I'm also cruise leader for the Oceanside Yacht Club and we're doing a week at Catalina in July. Looks like I'll be on the water a lot this...

    Radar reflection

Have you seen the reflectors built into plastic tube cylinders? Several sizes are made. Look up MOBRI or PLASTIMO radar reflectors. That's what I use on my sailboat and I guess I'll be moving it to the C-Dory some time. Nice clean design, easy to mount, no flapping or banging around. Same signal...

Kayak storage on a 22 Cruiser

One thing you could do is buy the Yakima bars and kayak mounts separate and forget about their car towers. Make some wood or plastic towers of your own. A simple hole for the Yakima bar and an undercut round base to rest on top of your wooden handrails. You could put a hole through the tower...

Kayak storage on a 22 Cruiser

Aha. I looked at Jim's pictures, as suggested, and I see that he used REAL raingutter mounts, and mine are really rooftop mounts with hooks that would reach under the rooftop next to where the door closes and seals with a weather strip. I may have confused others with my terminology. I think I...

Kayak storage on a 22 Cruiser

On my setup the Yakima metal hook that's supposed to grab under the rain gutter is instead hooked under the C-Dory roof rails. By putting a wood spacer between the bottom of the plastic Yakima tower and its rubber pad I end up with the rubber pad and tower pressing down against the roof of the...

Kayak storage on a 22 Cruiser

On my CD22 cruiser, I put a pair of Yakima crossbars across the cabin top and put some Yakima kayak cradles up there. I put my 13.5 ft Hobie on top the same way I do on my truck (or anyone would do on a car). I was going to make some custom towers to attach the crossbars to the C-Dory roof...
