    New Raymarine - ???

We looked into upgrading our E-80 to a newer model. I might have gotten away with it until my wife asked the salesman if it would just be a drop in replacement. "Oh no", he replied, "You'll need to upgrade the Radar to the new HD version!" A little quick math ended that conversation.

    Backing down on anchor

I think a 150 can always pull an anchor loose if you try hard enough. Try this: Go to the bow and have your crew lower the anchor to approximately the depth under the anchor (anchor is now hanging very near the bottom) Then lower the anchor as the boat is put in reverse. The chain is now being...

    Changes in New tomcats

In 2006, the bracket that mounts the engines to the hull was lengthened to prevent a lot of spray when underway. Ours (Dreamer) was the first out of the factory with that mod and several were retrofitted after that. Much later, the interior was changed to molded fiberglass. I wouldn't have liked...

How much boat is too much for someone new to boating?

A common mistake made by boaters and RVers is to buy too small a rig and within a year, move up to the next level and so on. A huge money pit. The boats you mentioned can be mastered almost as easily as a CD-16. There are just more systems to learn. The help you can get here from fellow Brats...

What a storm in the PNW!

I like your survival skills Rog! Had sprinkles this afternoon in Sequim, 2-3 knot wind gusting to 5 on our hill. The channel 5 weather reporting site West of town had 45 mph wind however.

    wifi access whle cruising

Joel, I have an I-Phone and talking on it is the thing I do least. But I use it for e-mail, internet, tides, vessel traffic, weather, satellite TV dish pointing, locating cheapest gas and on and on. If you don't want to talk, don't give out the number! But the available technology is well worth it.

In Seattle, looking to meet a C-Dory owner

Patrick, welcome to the C-Brats! I'm sure one of the many local owners will pipe up and offer you a look and probably a ride. I would suggest a short weekend trip to the Bellingham C-Brat Get Together. There, you'll meet dozens of owners and see various C-Dory models. I understand there will be...

    15% ethanol in marine fuel

Most Outboard manufacturers state that their warranty is voided by the use of fuel over 10% Ethanol. I'm sure the government will pick up any repair costs caused by the 15 % Ethanol fuel!

    Inverter Recomendations

Gene, We used an Outback 2000w. They're very HD and used in the solar power world. It was very dependable. It was powered with 2 Lifeline 8D AGMs, 850 AH. It sat under the rear dinette seat and had some added vent holes added...

Run the hole saw in reverse for the initial cut. It breaks the surface without causing a crack. Then just go slow.

VHF radio connections to the GPS

When I did this a few years back, I had to adjust the baud rate on the GPS to a low setting in order to make it work. It was 4800 I believe. YMMV

    Slips and falls

I think I heard that stepping into an open hatch is the number one cause of boat owners insurance claims. I stepped into the open fish box on the TomCat and dropped a brand new camera overboard! Be careful out there.
