    New Honda 50 issue

I've got just over 4 hours on my Honda 50 and it runs like a dream but there's one issue. At 3600 RPM there is a just perceptible miss that occurs about every 7 to 15 seconds. (or thereabouts) It's so minor that I shouldn't call it a miss; it is more accurate to call it a blip. However, it's...

    16 Angler in wind waves

When I was a kid we went in charter boats on the coast a lot. I remember one of the boats had a brass plaque up by the helm: "There are old sailers and there are bold sailers, but there are no old, bold sailers."

    16 Angler in wind waves

I have one battery in front with a fair-sized anchor, chain, 300ft of rope and a tool box, plus the usual lighter stuff. I've been thinking of moving the other battery up front also because I would then have room for a fish box under the motor well along with my tanks. From your experiences...

    16 Angler in wind waves

Thanks for the account of your trip in some rough water. Today I'm putting my new 1985 16 Angler in the water for the first time. If the forecast holds true we'll have nice conditions, but I'm on pins and needles, anyway. I'm in Eastern Oregon on the middle Columbia river where we don't see...

5200 vs epoxy for bilge area?

My new 1985 16 Angler had a number of old holes that had been drilled in the area under the motor well, some for fuel tank braces and some for battery hold-downs. After reading the methods you guys are using, I drilled the holes out to 1/4" and then filled them with epoxy, sanded them down and...

    gas tank strap alternatives?

Just got my new 1985 16 Angler repowered by Sportcraft. They did a great job, also adding a bilge pump and double batttery system, but I am not satisfied with the original tank and battery arrangement next to the transom. It sounds like you guys are doing things right and I hope that, on...

Repowering 16' Angler, battery charging choices

Left Patsy Lou at Sportcraft this afternoon. She will be fitted with a Honda 50 and a 5. I am certain the 5 will troll best in my situation, with no need for trolling plates; after hearing from you and others, the 50 is the one for me. (2012 50 and 40 are equal in weight) Also I'm getting...

    Vintage trim tabs?

My new 1985 CD 16 Angler, at home with me for 72 hours now, has some trim tabs that look to be adjustable only with a wrench. Has anyone seen trim tabs like the one shown in the album? They might go down about an inch, at most. Would it be of any use to keep them in place?

Repowering 16' Angler, battery charging choices

Until I bought a C-Dory I was an infrequent guest on this site. I am simply amazed at how helpful you C-Brats are with all the questions a new owner is faced with. I think I would have benefited by spending more time on C-Brats before I bought my boat, not that I would have looked for anything...

Repowering 16' Angler, battery charging choices

The biggest factor in my choice of a 40 was the photo of a 16' Angler on the C-Dory website and the 40 was listed as the recommended engine on their spec sheet. (I understand 55 is maximum.) Searching I found a fair number of opinions either way for various reasons. I'm thinking maybe the...

Repowering 16' Angler, battery charging choices

No offense but I think a wind generator would be more appealing on my '85 C-Dory. Around here they're taking on their own "classic" look, gleaming white and all....

Repowering 16' Angler, battery charging choices

Never had a hand crank but before the modern gadgets like automatic transmissions came along I used to park my uncle's old jeep backed up the best available downgrade when he let me borrow it to go fishing. Its charging system was good for one start at his farm and it turned fickle after that...

Repowering 16' Angler, battery charging choices

I am a day fisherman like you. I re-visited the Honda website and this is what they say about the 3 amp, 38 watt alternator on their 5 HP motor: "An optional, dealer installed, 3 amp charging system provides power to accessories." I understand that the 5HP motor's alternator is not designed...

Repowering 16' Angler, battery charging choices

Thanks for pointing out the charging characteristics of the smaller motors at different RPMs. I guess that's likely the case with most motors, automotive, lawn mower, etc. Where I fish, most people troll upstream, sometimes with the wind but generally against the current. At the end of the...

Repowering 16' Angler, battery charging choices

Thanks for correcting me, I am looking at a 5hp Honda. I've pull started a few larger outboards myself, most often when my battery was depleted after a long day of fishing, and its something I want to avoid in this boat. I my be mis-interpreting the Honda website, but it looks like you have a...
