    Shots

Bob - yes it is neat to see that many - thousands. People fly in from Europe (and everywhere else too I suppose) for it. Tom The long range seems to be 1/2 mile. I know they shot incredible distances at the Creedmore (sp?) back in the 1800's. These are all types of arms from smoothbore...

    How To Find Fishing Spots

Joe: as shown I have the 540, and did get the blue-charts maps. Mine also has the fish/nav feature. Now more to Harvey's point: I think it varies widely as to the accuracy of charting. In my area, there are still warnings (at least up to a few years ago) "not charted since 1866" or some such...

    Polishing Petrified Driftwood

Pay no attention: http://www.kingsleynorth.com/skshop/product.php?id=95532&catID=1064 I like this one because it delivers clean water to the wheels, so there's no cross contamination - but of course, you won't be getting one, so . . .

    Polishing Petrified Driftwood

These are coming from N. Georgia in a highly mineralized environment. The figure I most often come across is 150 million years for age. I have run across a paper (like you I suppose) where petrification can now be done in a laboratory - though I doubt that would be economically feasible on...

    Polishing Petrified Driftwood

Some of you might spot some of this, especially in areas where there was a history of gold production. The miners went to bedrock (dredging and otherwise) and in the course of that heaved up driftwood on the river bars. And yes, I realize that if you want to do what I'm doing here, there's...

Beer Can Jet Engine Alcohol Stove

Turns out, it does have its uses beyond what I thought: I've been using that design for a boonies retort for mercury for many years. Also a camper heater too. Amazing how important the inside edges being pointed up is as it sure accelerates the oxygen intake. You can regulate the flame height...

Beer Can Jet Engine Alcohol Stove

Good observation. If used, it should be simply for the flame and length of burning, below some solid pan holder.

Beer Can Jet Engine Alcohol Stove

Pat, I didn't, but if you search "penny stove" or "hobo stove" on YouTube you'll see designs that do (for the simple beer-can). This actually came about because of a friend of mine showed me some of these stove designs that would barely have any flame at all and I was thinking, you know with my...
