Honda BF90 ring gear holder tool

Does anyone happen to have the ring gear holder tool for the Honda BF90 sitting around and want to sell it? The Honda part number is 07SPB-ZW10100, or 07WPB-ZW50100, which superseded it. This is the tool that you drop into the starter spot to lock the crankshaft for changing out the timing...

    Yellowstone Lake--preferred anchor?

Thanks for the info. Since it looks like can't get our C-22 to Juneau this year, we settled for spending the summer in Bridge Bay marina. We can get walk-up permits for the backcountry sites as they keep 1/3 of the sites for walk-ups. Thanks for the note on the weeds. I wasn't expecting...

    Yellowstone Lake--preferred anchor?

What works and what doesn't work on Yellowstone Lake? If the bottom is like much of the shoreline, it would be volcanic sand. I have a Bruce (claw) and a Danforth, and 2 rodes of 30 ft. chain and 300 ft. nylon.

    Whitecap products

Thanks for the info. I actually found the through-hulls I wanted at Groco's website. A lot of vendors don't sell direct, but Groco does. Problem solved.

    Whitecap products

Has anyone purchased Whitecap through-hulls or other Whitecap products? I'm relocating one bilge pump and adding another. Both will require 90 degree fittings. The only manufacturer that I can find that makes these is Whitecap. I could assemble a lot of plumbing pieces to accomplish the same...

    Stainless flatware or silverware

Thanks folks. I agree about the engine anodes. I learned long ago with a VW van: Priority #1: Take care of the stuff that can kill you. Priority #2: Take care of the stuff that can leave you stranded. Priority #3: Take care of the fun stuff and everything else. It sounds like rusty...

    Stainless flatware or silverware

Hey salt water people. Has anyone found flatware/silverware that is truly stainless? I know that lots of flatware labelled as stainless is 18/0 or some other cheap alloy that tends to rust anyway. I'm not into plastic. I see the same set sold at both West Marine and Defender. Defender says...

    Fuel tank vents

Hi Rob, That sounds like the solution then. Where did do buy your fillers?

    Fuel tank vents

I like the idea of eliminating the outside/topsides vent that could allow water in. I see that West Marine sells several of these. I understand the concept of a gas vent is that it allows air in as fuel is used, and allows air (and fumes) out when filling the tank or when the tank warms up...

    Fuel tank vents

Thanks for the thoughts. It is sounding like a loop is a good idea. The hoses are probably original, so they are worth replacing anyway. The hose I am looking at will bend to a 4.5" radius, which I think I can fit. I might have to do a 360 degree loop, but that should be OK. I'll update if...

    Fuel tank vents

Has anyone ever had concerns about water finding its way into the fuel tanks from waves hitting the vents? The vent lines from my vents slope directly down to the tanks without high loops. I have a water separator fuel filter, but I'd rather avoid getting water in the tanks in the first place...

    Antenna SWR on land

We did some transmit/receive tests with the Cobra fixed radio talking to a VHF portable. At the portable, the Cobra would go from "clear as a bell" to having very buzzy interference--no middle ground--either very good or rather bad. My wife was at the radio on the boat and she said she could...

    Antenna SWR on land

The Cobra radio is an MR_F55. It has DSC, so it has to be 1992 or newer. I'm a bit away from the Coast Guard in Montana, and I don't want to transmit much for testing, but the Cobra with the Shakespeare antenna does pull in our local NWS station better than anything else I own. I think...

    Antenna SWR on land

As a followup report, I replaced the antenna connector and got the slightly better (but not acceptable) SWR--around 5.0. I got a jumper to connect my Standard Horizon portable to the fixed antenna, and got a 1.2 SWR. This does seem to imply that the fixed Cobra radio or its connector is leaky...

    Southeast Alaska Charts Wanted

All good points Bob, as always. I just don't like to see people put all of their faith in electronic devices. I will look forward to better performance from chart plotters compared to computers. My initial experience with my Lowrance unit and the people who make and support it has been very...

    Southeast Alaska Charts Wanted

We've kayaked much of SEAK for many years and I don't think I have more than 20 charts in our portfolio. And our kayak has an even smaller chart table than our C-Dory. I would just use editing software to break the charts into chunks that would fit on the kayak deck. As a person that makes my...

    Southeast Alaska Charts Wanted

All NOAA charts are available in PDF format direct from NOAA. Find a place near you where architects and engineers get their plans printed and have them print the PDFs for you. We have a Selby's store in Billings that will print the latest PDF file for you for around $7.00, and that includes...

    Antenna SWR on land

Thanks Bob. The garage is stick-built, so probably not an issue. I think I'm going to re-do or replace the connector. Shakespeare says this antenna should come in around 1.5 SWR, but, as you say, there's probably less quality control. I'm thinking I'm kind of stuck with this one, or in for a...

    Antenna SWR on land

The antenna is within 10 feet of my garage, which could be an issue. The SWR meter I am using is for ham radio VHF, which is in the 140's mHz range, so it should be close enough. I'm going to try re-doing the connector also. Thanks for the ideas.

    Antenna SWR on land

I just installed a new antenna on my new (used) boat: https://www.westmarine.com/buy/shakespe ... --12008215 The radio, an older Cobra MR F55 pulls in the local weather service channel very well, but the SWR is about 6.0 (not good). Shakespeare says this antenna should come in around 1.5 for...
