    South Florida Loop

Yep, Ray. It is, and I learned as a kid in the high school band, that you can't march in the town parade with a huge drum -- my buddy, a great drummer, had a small drum and played in our band that toured the county schools, all the local parades, and because of his local notoriety as a drummer...

    South Florida Loop

Of course that 86' vessel will have a marvelous cruise through the Keys and into the Everglades. Everyone makes their choices in life of what they consider important. Thoreau advised that we should march to our own drummer, and we believe that is very good advice and have followed it in our...

    South Florida Loop

Great plan, folks -- when north of the Keys, and visiting the 'Glades, we have a suggestion - look for the American CROCODILES!! Yep, Crocs! not the everyday alligators. We finally spotted two, when cruising the area, by following the suggestion of a friendly Park Ranger -- on the boat ramp into...

New Affordable Boat Act (A Joke)

We ALL have opinions -- on boats, health care, and you name it -- what's your favorite beer? Good to have a factual or experience base, but ... we all interpret the facts anyway. As a former teacher, I found that one of the best parts of teaching -- discussing subjects that had no clear...

New Affordable Boat Act (A Joke)

We have "crossed the bar" -- transitioned off our boat and now cruising ashore. Does that explain why I hear beautiful harp music every time somebody calls on our iPhone?

    The end of MacGregor sailboats

We also checked out a MacGregor -- but wanted a more secure (but small) boat for ocean cruising -- so bought a Pacific Seacraft Flicka and loved her.Lived on her for years.

    C Dory 22 Salty

Great about those doing the Loop - perhaps he can relate a few of his adventures for us. And Thataway Bob is a great finish to the cruise. Bill - on Noro Lim - unless you have any physical limitations, don't let age deter you from undertaking the Loop. We cruised the Loop more than five...

    Let's Go (Armchair) Boating!

For some armchair 'cruising' on a wet or windy winter day, you might enjoy a tale we put together at the end of our long cruise (over a thousand miles) down the Columbia River on a CD-22, from the mountains to the bar (ocean). There's geology, history, photos -- so grab a mug and nestle into...

    Thanks to this site

Welcome aboard - and to a great new experience. Our only suggestion (as given to us by a son when we bought our CD-22) - "a windlass is a darn site cheaper than a back doctor!" We side with your mate - get a good windlass, and you will be thankful many times over- we were. Enjoy your great...

    Say Goodbye to Paper Charts!

Whew - is that a record for the longest post on the Brat site?

    Say Goodbye to Paper Charts!

Bottom line: have a reliable back-up in case of electronic failure. Our iPhone ( protected in waterproof case) worked great (loaded with good charts and accurate GPS) when we had an electronic failure while cruising Lake Superior. Paper had previously always been our backup.
