    O Canada

Harvey, Understand your reasons -- we've BTDT soo many times, and getting there is at least 1/2 the fun. Port Renfrew, north of Sooke, is one of my favorite locations for fishing. Easy run to Swiftsure, but there are also some close sandy areas where big flatties hang out. It has been too long...

    O Canada

They could be talking about several places -- probably the most popular one with a decent road -- Quatsino Sound. It is getting too danged popular, but I hear it is still a great place. There is a Quatsino Resort, and you used to be able to rent a cottage and have the boat alongside the cottage...

    O Canada

Not for all, but my favorite way going to Bamfield and north is by water. Cornet Bay to Oak Bay to clear customs; then on to Sooke for dinner and overnight. Leave very early (first light) the next morning and take off to Bamfield. We have made that run many times -- rarely a weather problem if...

    Camp Lejeune

No disharmony here! All fun and games -- talk, talk, talk. I've been with Marines (capital M) since 1937, and proud of the fact. It's those undersea guys you have to look out for. And the Air Force has the same thing going. For the 6 years that I was a command pilot (B-47/B-52) with...

    Camp Lejeune

Happy to share Friday the thirteenth with all! Bryant -- I'm in Oak Harbor too -- perhaps a lunch or cool one to talk over Nam etc.? Or C-Dory etc.? or... open agenda. And thank you for your service, and your wife's service, and your son's service. Proud to have you in the C-Brat clan. And...

    Camp Lejeune

I've read and re-read Don's email. Absolutely nothing offensive IMO to the Marine Corps. And he wouldn't do that. Don't have a clue as to what jerked your chain, but I suspect you are reading something into his post that just isn't there. True, I'm not a Marine -- but with a WWII and Nam...

    Shrimp / Prawns

Big Dave, What size mesh do you have now? I use mine in Canada and US. Agree with Tom about areas and rigging -- except I use an anchor, then clip the pot to the main line, then clip on another weight to keep the pot from moving. I use a lot more float and a tag-line of about 15 feet with...

    03/06 - 03/08 - Indian Cove, South Sound

Robbi, Best wishes from one aviator to another -- surely a huge thumbs up to Cordell. Hope you were able to inject a little boating lust in one of his drips... and fishing too?? :love Dusty

    01/23 - 01/25 - Seattle Boat Show/C-Brat Convention

Thanks guys! "please don't talk about me when I'm gone" or so the song sez. And Roger, if you think my war stories are way out in left field -- wait until you hear some of my fish tales!! Hated to miss the fun gathering, but maybe next time.  Dusty

    01/23 - 01/25 - Seattle Boat Show/C-Brat Convention

Hoist a brew for me, eh? Can't get down, but had some cool visitors come up to spend a little time and lunch. Great day here, but sure wish I wuz with the gang. Dusty

    Offer accepted....any red flags.

My experience exactly with teak oil. Easy to apply, but takes a lot of work to get the dirt out for the next coat. The "new" Cetol is definitely my teak covering of choice. Worth while to watch a Devlin boat under construction. This is boat building at another level! Any surveyor in our area...

Ranger Tug 21ec - My Observation!

Happy to see ya back, Pat. That 21ec just ain't designed for the Byrdguy I know  -- but with your soon-to-be swelt figure you'll probably fit. Come up when you can -- the BBQ joint guys say they miss you -- and Dusty does. My pinhead takes a small hat, but the danged white still shows...

Right now we are applying the 6th or 7th coat of Cetol to the new bulkhead in the old 22 Classic. The beautiful grain shows through -- pictures later. Sure agree with Bob -- varnish is much more durable. The Burger hand rails (and toe rails) were all beautiful teak -- varnished -- 96 ft from bow...

And Cetol is the way to go up here in Deception Pass area. But Bob is right on -- gotta stay with it -- but it's so easy to lightly sand and lay on another coat. But there is nothing prettier than a well-done varnish job. Dusty

Wood! My old Herreshoff sailboat, built in 1898 (NO, Charlie, I didn't buy her new), was in pristine condition when we divorced in 197x. Not a bit of rot... :love :love. Had to sign an agreement NEVER to put power on her when I bought her. Dusty

Greg, :thup :thup :thup. If you come by Strawberry Point on the way down -- we are in the waterfront community just to the south. Wave as you go by. (South house in the group) Ya done good. Very good. Dusty

My last post was OT. Sorry. Re Devlin, Tom Ray is right of course. But (always that but), a Devlin-built boat in the Pac NW is a real jewel to knowledgeable boaters -- and always in demand if in good condition. And next to generators I've had more trouble with V-drives than anything else on a...

Tom, I have fished both my CD 22 and my (ex) 26 Bartender in the nasty ocean off Neah Bay. Gordon (Pt. Angeles) is right as to seakeeping ability. BUT (Huge but), the CD 22 does MANY things better, so it's always a trade off. Ain't it always so. I've been fishing from Pt. Angeles...

What a deal! Devlin is absolutely tops. Wish I still had my old Bartender. Dusty
