I think there may have been some changes at the factory, and that may be the reason for the delay in response. Hopefully the eventual response is an indication that things are getting back on track.

The other problem I see is that if you switch the solonoid after you've begun going downhill, you may trap fluid in the brake lines after the brakes have been partially applied, which maight create more heat problems, not less.

Throw the Shamrock 270 Mackinaw into the mix. Direct drive inboard, it has a fantastic ride and is a very roomy boat. Downside is it only sleeps two.

Note that the difficulty of running in that transition speed between 8 and 15 or so knots is common to the Skagit Orca design as well. In fact it's true for almost any Deep V hulled boat.

For painted on names, EZ Off oven cleaner works well. I used it on a Carver I had purchased. The gel coat yellowed a bit, which worried me, but the next day was back to normal. Be very careful not to get the oven cleaner on paint you want to stay on!

I see what you're trying to do Bob. I think the problem would be that the brake controller sends a variable voltage signal. More voltage = more braking power. So I wonder if the lower voltage would be enough to trip the solonoid, or if the low voltage would damage the solonoid?

On the 7 to 5 adapter, the control wires from the brake controller are not connected to anything. The signal to the lock out solonid will still be coming from the back up light.

We don't do the boat ride or inspections until price is agreed to. The question comes up "How will I nknow what to offer until I know how it runs, it's condition, etc?" Make the offer assuming everything works and runs properly. If it doesn't, you can walk away, or renegotiate.
