Teries doesn't have the brass keel strip as the hull is a different shape than the "Classic" C-Dory's. The keel guard is a great solution and offers more protection without drilling hols in the boat.

My guess would be that the gasket on the drain plug or the fill level plug was bad allowing water in. Put new gaskets on those screws (you should every time anyway) and run the boat.
