    Columbia River Spring Chinook 2008

It is just starting to take off! Below is the graph of the Bonneville Dam fish count for Spring Chinook Adults. I'm looking forward to fishing the weekend of the 25-27th of April. This year is supposed to have three times as many as last year's run. Oh great, it is snowing outside.... C.W.

    04/12 - 04/13 - Cathlamet, WA

Dave -- Oldgrowth, thanks for the invitation, I didn't see it until tonight (Sunday 4-13). I would enjoy teaming up for another CBGT the next time you have room. I had planned all along to fish for spring chinook this past weekend. I did go on Saturday, arriving at the PortCo area at 5:20 am...

    White King / Chinook

I caught one last year in the Columbia. I prepared it exactly how I prepare other salmon. It was not as good, flesh was a little softer though it was apparently as "fresh" as the others are from the ocean. But remember, there is also variety of flavor between fish of the same run. C.W.

    Bahamas is a bust

Glad you're okay and had the sense to summon assistance in a timely fashion. That is not the time to cut corners because of a tow bill. Do you have a secondary means of propulsion? A kicker of some type? I'd be nervous anywhere without one. C.W.

    Columbia River Spring Chinook 2008

Mark, congratulations to Diana on her first chinook. It may seem like she caught it... but I'm betting that she was the one that actually got "hooked" . I went to your photo album... beautiful boat, beagle and modifications. I hope you took a few digital pics of her fish... post them in your...

    Columbia River Spring Chinook 2008

Well, since the above post I fished a three or four more times for springers in the lower river. At the island across from Kalama I hooked and lost one and had one take down and saw about three or four caught. Got checked for licenses for the first time ever while out on the water by the local...

    04/12 - 04/13 - Cathlamet, WA

I spent the night before last (4-3-08) moored in the Cathlamet marina in my boat. We fished the last two days of the spring chinook season at Tenasillhee (sp?) Island trolling and pulling Kwikfish. We hooked two and got one in the boat, about 12 lbs. There were a lot of boats fishing. The...

HOW IS THE ECONOMY EFFECTING BOATING

Good condition used boats are looking great compared to similar models that are new and would burn the same gas. You know, the $30,000 difference between the two would buy a Hell of a lot of gas. A scuffed up boat on the water planing along is much prettier than a shiny new one sitting in the...

    Marine Grade 12 Gauge

I've always owned and used shotguns for hunting geese, deer and elk. I bought a brand new Rem. 1187 for $683 and sold it a year later, what garbage, not reliable. I wanted to step up to a 3.5" 12 gauge and tried the Mossberg 500 Ultimag and found it better than the semi-auto Remington, but...

    CBFT in Kalama?

Well, I spoke with several people at the SBSCBGT about the idea of a C-Brats Fish Together in August in Kalama, WA where we would target the peak of the run for the big Fall Chinook salmon and there was a very positive response. This is the best chance of the whole year, in the best river of the...

    Columbia River Spring Chinook 2008

Well, I trailered down to PortCo boat launch (between I-5 & 205) this morning and got to spend 45 minutes in line (from 6:00 to 6:45 am) because we got there late -- made me appreciate my own slip back at Kalama. With some creative parking we hit the water pretty quickly and then got a call on...
