    Klean Heat Shelf Life

Just make sure the jugs sit completely on the shelf. I had two that got moved around a bit and hung off maybe an inch on one end. And it happened to be the end closest to the wall that you don't see. This will make the container sag just enough to make a nice tiny crack. Drip...drip...drip...

    Pod drives

You already have the efficient parallel to the hull thrust with the outboard and lots of other benefits. You just need the maneuver part. If you have ever operated a small outboard that has 360 degree steering you know how maneuverable it can be. And powerful as the prop can pull in a forward...

    Changes in the Keys

If you have a military club card: Key West Naval air station, Boca Chica marina has slips for .80 a ft. ($25) minimum. Includes water, electric, showers. The launch ramp is still hurricane damaged. Sigsbee housing area marina is closed for rentavation but the launch ramp is available. We...

    cabin engine noise in 16 & 19 c-dory's

Interesting project. Not sure how big of a difference there is between the cowling on your engine and a Honda 75 HP. To keep the look you might be able to insulate the 75hp cowling and slip it over your current engine cowling. If the fit is good the air intake should work the same. If it is...

    Bar Keepers Friend

All this time I was looking for it to be in a tin can like auto paste wax. Just as Snal said it's right next to the comet cleanser at Lowes. Thanks for the additional info, Bob. It's a job I always put off but it needs doing.

    Bar Keepers Friend

I read where Bar Keepers Friend works wonders on the colored strip on the boat. I need to remove oxidation and water spots. I can't find the stuff locally. http://barkeepersfriend.com/products.htm The website has many products. Powder? Liquid? Which one is everyone using? Thanks.

    Tachometer problem

Did you see the adjuster screw/switch? Some folks have sprayed it with electrical contact cleaner and switched it back and fourth to clean the contact connections. The adjustment is used to set the instrument for 4 or 6 cylinder engines. Be sure to put it back on the original setting. I think I...

    Tachometer problem

Now here is an advantage of twins I never thought about  Swap out with the other tach for a quick troubleshoot. There is an adjuster on the back that some have reported can cause your problem. Corrosion on the adjuster If I remember. If not that it probably is bad.

40 HP Merc 2-stroke, disconnected oiler--good idea or no?

On the pre-mix. Disconnecting the oiler has been done on motorycles for years. Just like most things, all is well until something in the oiler fails and then the engine ruins itself. I made the recommendation to my Dad when he picked up a nice used 16 ft starcraft fishing boat with a Johnson...

    New C-Dory 29'

Agree with Bob on the running gear. It is vulnurable. This dory won't be going on the beach party like the others can. No shots of the cockpit? I would expect enough room to nap/sun back there but it doesn't appear so. The center window seems to be the same one used on the other boats. Not big...

    Site Unseen

Normally a sight unseen CD is a safe bet. I am sure I ended up with the most banged up CD for its age (a 2000 model bought in spring of 2003) as anybody. The owner had just moved from South Florida to Buzzards Bay, Mass. Back in 2003 a used CD was very rare and they would sell almost...

    Carb cleaning advice?

I would also drain the float bowls, one at a time into a clean container for inspection. Very much water might be concern to clean the fuel tanks. Don’t forget to check the tank vents to make sure they don’t point forward. The presence of very much sediment might be reason to pull each float...

Buying a C-dory that's been in salt water or marina moored

If you need to flush the outboard on a mooring it is easy if you have a fresh water washdown and a yamaha. Not sure about other engine flush fittings. Just connect the fresh water washdown hose to the fitting and flush away. Works good when you can't pull the boat from the water.

80 Yamaha still not right, shop wants to replace all 4 carbs

Try PRI-G. It is an alternative to the Yamaha recommended "Ring Free". It is not widely available and I don't care for the price. My used boat came with half a bottle. I used it and forgot about it since it isn't locally available where I live. The next time I pull the spark plugs: If there...

9.9 kicker froze up while cranking...WHY?

Quite possibly the build up of fuel in the cylinder has hydro locked the piston. The fluid can also be water if the engine is water cooled. Air can be compressed but a liquid (fuel) is almost impossible to compress without doing major damage. So the engine stops turning over. If this is the...

    Hard starting kicker

When an engine runs with the choke on or runs better slightly choked and dies when you unchoke: Almost always indicates the engine is not getting enough fuel. Fuel passages in the carb are plugged. Sediment builds up in the float bowl as well. When you add stabil it is quite possible it will...

    Dealer Setup (PortBoathouse) question

The boat would be better balanced with the batteries in the middle of the boat and down low more than any other stern position. More room for larger than group 24 batteries. Lazaretes are now available for other stuff. If you go with a main engine and a kicker the kicker could be mounted on...
