    Spring service question

Greetings. 1. It's been 4 years, time to service the water pumps on both outboards (Honda 135 and 8HP kicker, both <200 total hrs.). When this is done, is just the impeller replaced, or is it best practice to replace the entire pump, or some other degree of additional maintenance beyond the...

    Honda Engine Block Casting Fault

Barry: The Honda BF 130 of that vintage is not considered to be a great engine, irrespective of casting flaws. It was heavy, not overly reliable, and was superseded with the re-designed 135/150 which are much better motors. Not sure this is what you want to hear but I believe it represents...

    C-Dory prices

Wow, I was reading along in this thread, and only when I encountered an old reply of my own did I realize it was from 2008! All the talk of empty marinas and fire-sale prices on unsold C-Dories was jarring, as I normally have a good ear to the ground of the economy and didn't see things being...

    PassageMaker article

Of the boats reviewed, the C-Dory is built the lightest, structurally. Perhaps the heavier construction and layup schedules of the others tends to better muffle all types of sound? Or maybe the C-Dory's flat/planing hull started to bang a little at speed, while the others (semi-d and deep vee)...

C-Dory 26 Venture vs. Lakes Michigan and Huron

Some clarification of mission would help steer this interesting discussion: Intended use (cruising, fishing, overnighting?), how fast do you want/need to go?, presumably it needs to be trailerable for your off-piste storage: tow vehicle, beam width constraints, height/length constraints...

C-Dory 26 Venture vs. Lakes Michigan and Huron

Schloots: Being frugal by nature and inclined towards simplicity, I share your notions re the added expense with heavier/deep V hull forms. However many years of boating have taught me that fuel cost is just a tiny fraction of the overall cost of boat ownership. Problem is, it's one of the...

C-Dory 26 Venture vs. Lakes Michigan and Huron

The boat will safely handle those conditions, but it is not the hull design best suited for those conditions. If you will frequently be boating in 3-5' wind waves I'd suggest looking for something better designed to handle them: heavier and more of a v-hull. Or perhaps a RIB style vessel?

    Outboard options

If looking for a used CD 25, I would think twin 90's would be a great choice, especially if they were fuel-injected. I currently have a single/kicker setup which runs fine but have had twins in the past and would much rather have twins for my use pattern. I think the chief reason is with...

    R41 - Hull #1 photo's

Peter: I'm glad you guys are enjoying your new vessel. I suspect, in her "heart of hearts", the Admiral to whom I report would much rather have your Ranger than what we currently have, or what I want to buy next. Especially this time of year when the weather turns cold. Every year at the...

Fairbro: You raise an excellent general issue. Here is my thought process: I initially had the same reservations, that my honest remarks would be offensive to some. I concluded it would be OK since this isn't a Ranger Tugs forum. (I would not have posted the same remarks on TugNuts, where...

    R41 - Hull #1 photo's

When I said "toy-like" I really meant no disrespect to Ranger owners or the Mfg. It's just the term which best describes how I view them. I am reminded of their appeal every time we leave Skyline, when my wife says: "I really like that one (a Ranger 25 or 27), it's really cute". I realize...

    R41 - Hull #1 photo's

In my opinion, just my opinion, the Ranger boats seem to have a "toy-like" quality to them. Feature packed, shiny, and almost should be sold at Costco. Hard to argue with their market success however.

    STOLEN C-DORY ON 7/27/18

Really sucks to have thieves steal and strip one's boat. I understand the frustration involved, having been hit myself a few times. However, and at the risk of veering off-thread, the notions being expressed regarding our "lenient" criminal justice system might be overblown. The fact is the...

    Tow vehicle engine choice

Sadly all the diesels seem to require a $40K+ outlay to buy new. I've read that Ford has F-150 models pushing 100K and they sell everything they can build. Not sure I'll ever own one since I don't trailer all the time and thusly don't want to park that much cash in a tow vehicle. I think if I...

Making an offer on C-Dory 22

You made a very reasonable offer IMO. The boat is 16 years old. Maybe gently used, but likely older generation motors (carb. vs. EFI) and likely older generation electronics. And apparently it's been for sale for quite a while? There are owners who don't really care if they sell, or maybe...
