Choice Of Depth Sounder, And Location of Transducer

Yes, I had jumped to the conclusion that the transducer was glued inside the hull, and I was interested how big a deal it was dealing with the core. Since this is not the case, a picture won't help, but I appreciate your experience with the depth transducer mounted where it is. You said your...

Choice Of Depth Sounder, And Location of Transducer

Thanks all! Gary, I assume your transducer is inside the locker below your feet at the helm, right? I had understood that the hull bottom was cored from the main bulkhead in front of the helm back to the transom, and if this is the case, did he remove the core at that location? I'd appreciate a...

Choice Of Depth Sounder, And Location of Transducer

We don't fish, so I removed the Lowrance HDS on the 22 Cruiser we bought last summer to make room for a small kicker. I plan to mount a digital depth sounder, and it looks like the easiest to fit in the dash area are the HawkEye, which I have had experience with, and a Faria, of which I know...

    Shaft length range for kicker

No, I wasn't thinking of mounting to the swim platform, but the possibility of mounting that far off the centerline. Right, drill fill drill! Thank you for your suggestions!

    ford low range 2wd

Had a couple of FJs; 40s of course, and a 55 and a 60. Only 45 I saw was on a trip to California in 1974, never saw any in the east. About locking hubs, the most basic example I ever saw was on a very old Willys jeep, pickup actually. There were two pairs of plates/cups, one with splines...

    Shaft length range for kicker

Thanks! This helps. So you have pushed from the swim platform... that would be well offset from the centerline, so must not be a problem. Two things I'm being cautious about...or make sure of before I do it. Drilling holes in the transom which might end up being in the wrong place, and...

    Shaft length range for kicker

I'm needing to make this same decision for our CD22. Not for fishing, but since we want to head out to the barrier islands off Virginia's eastern shore, we want backup power. Been there many times when we were virtually alone. It seems to me that with the trim tabs where they are, it's a tight...

    GROG

Thanks for the story! WRT hot buttered rum, I still savor the first one I had, after a cold, wet race. None that I've had since has compared. Any other favorite recipe?

Accessing Transom Drain Plug While On Lifter

I'm sure you are right about the threaded plugs. I think the female threads are tapered as well as the male threads.

Accessing Transom Drain Plug While On Lifter

I have the bronze screw-in plug, which I'm more comfortable with anyway. I'll look back there to see what can be done.

Accessing Transom Drain Plug While On Lifter

Thanks for the information! This gives me guidance going forward. While the boat is now on the trailer I'll see if the plug can be screwed in from inside. For giving a lifter more slant for draining, I have added shackles to the aft cables.

Accessing Transom Drain Plug While On Lifter

We are thinking about installing a lifter for the 22 Cruiser at our dock, Question for those keeping their CDory on a lifter, do you remove the drain plug, or just rely on the bilge pump to remove rain water? It would seem to be a long reach to the drain plug, but the pump leaves a lot of...

    Honda Re-Power

That looks like a clean installation. I plan on installing a kicker on the 22 Cruiser we bought last summer, and was not sure there was room to mount directly to the transom. We have the swim platform on the port side, which forces the kicker to starboard amongst the cables and all. Is your...

    SBS 2021 CBGT - Zoom

Be careful what you wish for! A friend's virtual church service was crashed/hacked by an old man prancing around in the nude.

    Boating at night

For lighting daymarks, crab pots and the like, these are amazing. https://store.marinebeam.com/marinebeam ... lashlight/ The technology produces a very narrow beam less likely to strike and reflect back off your boat. Even their small ones are very impressive. Nice not having a cord. Nice...

bench seat for 25 motorwell/transom, noise reduction

I was going to say that as well...I don't think Starboard is considered structural. Thin plywood with a couple of solid wood ribs underneath would be stronger and much lighter. Wrapping it with fiberglass and epoxy would finish it off nicely.

New Owner of a 22 Cruiser

Thanks for all the replies! This is a nice size group to be in: big enough, but not too big. It sounds like trimming is a bit of experimentation. In chop I shouldn’t raise the bow so much with the motor like I do on the Privateer (not really a deep vee!) so a lot of trim tab won’t be needed to...

New Owner of a 22 Cruiser

Hi After some months of lurking here, we recently bought Red Top, and look forward to time aboard! As sailors, this won't be our primary vessel, but when there's little wind, or not enough time for a good cruise, Red Top will still allow us to be on the water... the Chesapeake Bay. I...

    Cored Areas?

Thank you for all the good information! I own a balsa cored sailboat so understand that as long as penetrations are done properly there should be no problem. Drill-fill-drill! I just want to know where to look in case there is a problem. Not that I have any doubts of C-Dories! Hope I'll be...
