    Intuition to Alaska - 2021

Sounds like Bull Kelp. Charts will sometimes show known forests of kelp. It's important for lots of sea critters, but can be a real PITA for a propeller. Good idea to avoid it if you can. The stuff anchors itself, but can drift around. I'm enjoying following your adventures. Thanks for...

Yup, the sailors have blown (so-to-speak) by the lead paddlers. (The lead peddlers dropped out - they had planned only to go through today, since the crew apparently has to be back at work tomorrow!)

The leaders are now 2/3 through the 360 mile course. The paddlers/peddlers may just pull this off! BendRacing (two person kayak) has rounded the B’ham marker and is headed south – at 4+ mph, followed closely by Boogie Barge (multi hulled peddle power). Big Broderna (Trimaran sailboat) is...

Very little wind so far. The paddlers are cleaning up.

Because of restrictions on transiting BC waters, there is no Race to Alaska this year. Instead there is a 360 mile race around Puget Sound. Here's the link: https://nwmaritime.org/wa360-daily-updates/

Considering a C-Dory 16 trip from Anacortes to Friday Harbor

We crossed Juan de Fuca in our 16 (Port Townsend to Cattle Pass) several times. We also circumnavigated Whidbey. Be conservative about the weather. Do not risk fog or significant wind. Know what the tide is doing and which way the wind is blowing. Don't set out on a crossing late in the day...

Thanks for posting. You really can't have too many reminders of dangers like this. Some of the comments on the linked forums point out a common, and sometimes critical, mistake boaters make in plotting a course. Details on electronic charts appear and disappear with the zoom function...

    Sturgeon!

Couple of beauties, for sure! I have never fished for sturgeon, but was once impressed by a very large specimen getting seriously airborne a few yards away from me while I was fishing for shad near the Bonneville Dam. It was awe inspiring.

    Introducing myself and "C-horse"

Congratulations! She's a beauty. You're lucky enough to live near some of the very best boating waters in the world - and waters for which your boat is ideally suited. Keeps us posted on projects and trips!

    Assymetry

Oh, I wasn't imagining anything other than using it to assist in getting me undamaged to the fuel dock or a slip in Petersburg Harbor. :embarrased Every dock for the 20 miles of the Narrows is subject to daily substantial or even extreme currents and to frequent winds. Seems like a lot of...

    Assymetry

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V11NsJ155RM Amazing, but I would love to see this system demonstrated in the Wrangell Narrows at full flood current with a stiff cross wind.

She has a name, and catches fish.

You are more than welcome. I love seeing pictures of, and hearing about, a boat like the on that brought me so much joy. Several ways to skin the cat on posting pictures. I am a very non-techie type (that may be shorthand for "old"), but I followed the advice of the resident Nerds here many...
