    Naming Poll

We're still mulling it over, in the past we've had (my favorite) Pi, which just had a large Pi symbol on the side of the boat, Mary Pearl, Ethel, and a few we just called by there make or model, "Starwind", "Snipe" etc. Usually when we find one we know immediately, Kestrel Dawn is almost there...

    AIS receiver and display

I didn't really mean to hijack this thread, lol, that's why I started a new one. I was interested in that playback feature, I read another thread where you brought that up, I just forgot about it, thanks for reminding me, I'll make a note of it this time.

    Outfitting New Boat

Thanks Hardee, I forgot about that feature of the ICOM, and thanks for the welcome, I love this group, and the boat. Starcrafttom, that's funny, I'm never surprised by what I see on the water. I've been mostly running blow boats for almost 20 years (wow, where does time go) mostly with nothing...

    New Direct Injected 2-stroke Tohatsu

Well this is interesting, I noticed a lot of the same lingo with the Honda "Blast" and Tohatsu using the same verbiage. Looks like the Tohatsu is just a rebranded Honda, 4 stroke anyway. I wonder where they get the 2-stroke from, maybe Evinrude? https://www.sportfishingmag.com/boats/b ...

    Honda 75,90 and 100hp

Thx, I really like that capability, seems fairly useful.

    New Direct Injected 2-stroke Tohatsu

I mentioned this is the Honda thread I started but thought it warranted it's own discussion. I have a 2002 Honda 90hp with about 800 hrs on it, currently in the shop as it has water in the foot. Hopefully we'll get many years out of it but I was just doing a cursory glance at new engines and...

    Honda 75,90 and 100hp

I hope this doesn't open up a can of worms, but Tohatsu makes a 90hp direct injected 2-stroke that only weighs 337lbs. I've used that brand on sailboats, albeit smaller versions and they were great engines. MSRP around $10,000. Anyone know of a direct injected 2-stroke on a C-Dory? EDIT: I...

    Honda 75,90 and 100hp

Thanks, that makes sense. What finally did it for your Honda? I have a 2002 Honda 90hp with 800hrs on it. When buying a kicker for my last sailboat, Tohatsu uses the same head for their 4hp and 6hp, just a different carb, naturally I went with the 6hp. Needing premium fuel definitely changes...

    Outfitting New Boat

Here's an idea, I could buy that new Icom M93d floating handheld, it has DSC and GPS and just keep my mounted unit for now, maybe upgrade later. I guess the benefit of an upgraded mounted unit would be the increased range from the higher antenna mount. Horizon is coming out with a unit that...

    Honda 75,90 and 100hp

This may be a dumb question, but I was over at the Honda website looking at their outboards (currently have a 2002 90hp Honda) and the 75, 90 and 100hp all weigh the same. In that case why wouldn't you just put the 100hp on there? I'm guessing this wasn't the case in the past? Otherwise why...

    Outfitting New Boat

I was just looking at the Garmin and Simrad packages over at the WM site, interesting stuff. I don't keep up with this much but the 3G and 4G radar from Simrad seems interesting, as is that Garmin you mentioned.

    Outfitting New Boat

I didn’t know there was such a thing, I’ve been writing on napkins for a few days trying to engineer one. I’ll have to talk to google about that. Thanks

    Outfitting New Boat

That’s good to hear. I’m sort of thinking the same way, I think we’ll enjoy the dual platforms more than we’ll need a little kicker. I’m glad you mentioned that. Thanks

    AIS receiver and display

Thank you, I really like that horizon. I think that’s what I’ll go with, then a mid sized plotter, seems like a decent set-up. Heck any screen larger than my little GPS map 76 that I’ve been using for almost a decade will seem huge, lol.

    Outfitting New Boat

Thanks Bob, that helps a lot. Speaking of paper charts, they don’t seem as easy to get as they used to be, there’s a sailmaker in town that’ll print them on demand. I’m going to get at least coverage of my area. I didn’t mention that above but I’ve spent many years with paper charts and a good...

    Outfitting New Boat

So I've been dreaming about these boats since 2013, but upon deciding to actually buy a boat and actually buying the boat only took two days, and a 2,800 mile round trip to TX, lol. So yes, I've been lurking and reading the forum for a while.

    Outfitting New Boat

My other dilemma is that I have dual swim platforms installed. I had wanted a boat with an auxiliary engine, this sort of prevents that unless I build some sort of bracket to mount an outboard on the platform, or just remove one of them. The other problem, if I make a bracket then I don't have...

    Outfitting New Boat

Thanks, all great points. The VHF I have is a Ray45, and doesn't have DSC. I also thought all radios were required to have it, not sure how or why this installed one doesn't. You're probably right about not needing to transmit AIS, I just thought it may provide a safety factor. It's just the...

    AIS receiver and display

Thanks Colby, so if you have a VHF that has an internal GPS and AIS but no chartploter how do you see the other AIS vessels? It seems that without the plotter the only value in the GPS/AIS VHF is the distress signal capability? Is that correct? Thanks Brandon Charleston SC

    Outfitting New Boat

Thanks for the info. Mind me asking how you generally utilize your radar? I don’t really know what I don’t know when it comes to them. Once or twice I’ve been caught out in heavy fog in a busy shopping channel and wished I’d had it, especially when all I could hear were fog horns from tugs...
