    First run with the E-Tec

John, the Honda 150 long shaft weighs in at 485 lbs the 200 E-Tec long shaft is 427 lbs. The E-Tec is about about the same width as my 115 Yamaha and around 6 inchs taller and 4 inches deeper. Be interesting to see how it pans out from a fuel usage standpoint when fully loaded. My guess is...

    First run with the E-Tec

Hauled the boat to Newport over the weekend and put two hours on the new motor in Yaquina bay. Had a couple of non-motor related problems to work through. Biggest issue was the deck drains leaked , quick trip to England’s and a couple hours to get sealed up. Launched around 1:00 PM with a heavy...

    What's this on my transom?

Been so long I forgot what it looked like with a motor The prop run with a 14.25 x 19 only gave about 5400 RPM with top speed of 36 mph so a 14.25 x 17 is on order. Looking for 5600 to 5700 RPM although the speed is about what I expected. Thinking I will pickup a 15 pitch for a spare/heavy...

    Shearwater transom rebuild

Boris, the core cut out I have shows 4 layers of glass used. The total thickness of the fiberglass is slightly less than what the factory had. Mr. Becker did discuss this point with me and noted that he used a higher grade of glass matting so overall layup is stronger than factory product. I...

    Survey, yes or no?

Based on what I have learned from the transom rebuild on Shearwater I would do more than just a visual inspection if doing my own survey. There are some pretty easy things that can be checked without having a meter or drilling holes. On the visual part look closely at screwheads, see if there...

    Custom transom boot

Tsturm, the old OMC battery switch survived 13 years without problem so never really thought much about mounting the new one in the same spot. It does get a saltwater wash periodically and they are advertised as waterproof right :wink stevej

    Custom transom boot

Could not bring myself to install one of the fall apart 5 dollar boots while everything was apart on Shearwater. Also could not find any quality boots as far as I can tell they don't exist so made some up. Kenworth shift boot (very heavy duty) Pro-Comp shock boot Plastic tube from wire spool...

    More Shearwater transom

Thanks Gary, looking a little less utilitarian now that I am getting things back in place. The Line-x I have in my truck bed has held up very well over the last 6 years. It will collect dirt due to the open grain surface but a quick blast with the power washer and it looks like new. stevej
