    Apple I-Pad GPS/Plotter

Probably - folks have issues with the controls on the GPS (read the reviews) so I'm not sure about the usability.

    Apple I-Pad GPS/Plotter

There are a few Bluetooth solutions. Some require jailbraking, this one does not: http://www.amazon.com/GNS-5870-MFI-Bluetooth-Receiver/dp/B004289ZW0 But none of these is perfect, and you'll probably spend another $100 or so (plus have a more fiddle-ridden setup). FWIW, even though I love my...

    BC Ferries Rate Increases

I got my Nexus card last month. My wife's interview is scheduled for next week - she didn't get the email notice and you can't see what email address you entered or change it until AFTER the Nexus card is issued, so be damned sure you get that part right! But I didn't know about the "Boater...

    Level Flotation

Redundancy is your friend for propulsion (twins or a kicker), navigation devices, radios, heat sources (if it's cold!), and so on - I suggest you would be better off with a redundant hull. Rather than "overkilling" your boat by taking it from being able to survive 99.99% of situations to...

    BC Ferries Rate Increases

Grovelling the Internet, it looks like there are no agents in Uclulet or Bamfield, and you can call Canadian Customs by phone from either (not sure of that), and that they MAY send an agent. But, going back to the US...it appears that Neah Bay is NOT a US port of entry - you'll have to get to...

    BC Ferries Rate Increases

And only 40nm from Neah Bay to Bamfield (a reasonable stopping place - I was there on a friend's Northern Marine trawler a few years ago).

    BC Ferries Rate Increases

The irony is that the WSF system has been hugely criticized - but compared to the BC ferries they are geniuses! I was just looking at a trip out of Port Alberni - maybe I should do that this year before the rate hike takes effect! Keith

    BC Ferries Rate Increases

Mentioned on BitterEnd blog: http://www.pacificfreepress.com/news/1-/8001-sinking-bc-ferries.html That's gotta hurt plans to trailer to Vancouver Island.

    Trim Selection-Does size matter??

Location matters - the further outboard the better.

Seeking Opinions: Ready to pull the Handheld GPS trigger...

I've had a GPS60C for a few years and love it. Streets in Australia, on the boat / dinghy / and now CD22, hiking, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, trying to locate property corners on rural land, I never run out of places to use it. I note that the 60 and 76 both appear to have 240x160 screens - kind...

    Juneau Alaska info needed

I have no recommendation for burgers in Juneau, but if you stop in Ketchikan, then you HAVE to stop by "Burger Queen"!

    Juneau Alaska info needed

I'll second that recommendation - I went there with my wife about 6 years ago and she was able to explain to me the "14 stations of the cross". A very beautiful place.

    Juneau Alaska info needed

I used to live in Juneau 30 years ago and liked "Beauty and the Feast" over in Douglas (across the channel from Juneau) - amazingly it appears to still be there!

    C-Dory 14

When I saw this boat last fall it had a kicker on it as well, but they sold it and lowered the price. Damn cute boat!

A Letter to the Men's Helpline

You wouldn't have had this problem if you had a (Toland | Reynolds | Triton) boat.

    How are the new 22's?

I just talked to Scott and he's working on this and said he'd have it done by end of February, at which point he'd supply a PDF to us.

    Weight Distribution in Refurbishment

I'm thinking through the same thing (and started a thread last month about movable ballast - suggestions were water jugs but I think I'm going with lead pancake weights). I agree with Dr Bob that you want AGMs inside the cabin. You could also mounts those horizontally (though I believe they are...

    New from Ranger Tug

Here's a picture. I also liked the stainless "staples" on the step, though I'm not sure the slight forward angle of the outer leg adds enough bracing in the fore/aft direction.
