Honda BF90A kicker motor tie bar mount.

I am in the process of replacing our hydraulic steering on our 2004 22 cruiser. The original system used an older drag link style Baystar hc4600 steering ram. when we first purchased the boat I installed a plate (Honda #53234-zw1-010) on the BF90A that provides a mount for the kicker motor tie...

4 blade vs. 3 blade propellers

Here is something to think about when you go to a different prop. Our boat originally came with a four blade composite prop. The boat ran very well with it. We took it for a freshwater bath at lake Crescent WA and about 3/4 around the lake at a 15 kt per hr cruise the motor started vibrating...

I’m thinking of replacing my plotter w/ an 12.9“ IPad

I can say that we too have had great success using an ipad without having phone service. We purchased an older ipad for a couple hundred dollars from ebay. it is cellular capable with GPS and has wi-fi. I purchased the Navionics ap a couple years ago and downloaded all the maps I would need over...

Importance of 4x4 or AWD or Locking Diff at boat launch?

You Can probably get by with 2 wheel drive 90% to 95% of the time, but the one time you needed the 4x4 you will be patting yourself on the back for having it and it really does not cost you that much more and will also give back to you on resale down the road. You will not have the worry of if...

    Both transducers losing bottom

While we have a 22 cruiser and not a Tomcat, We do have the same transducer. We had the same problem and the solution ended up being to position it about a 3/8" lower than the hull instead of even with it as the instructions state. It works perfect now.

    Barkley sound

We too are hoping to make a trip to Barkley sound. We have considered putting in at Neah bay and making the trip Via Pacific Ocean to Barkley Sound. We have been as far as Swift Sure Bank and that is almost 1/2 way there. It seems doable during periods of Calm water conditions in the summer. We...

4 blade vs. 3 blade propellers

We have used both a three blade and a four blade on our 22. I liked the four blade. It had noticeably favorable handling characteristic around the docks. Seemed to get a good bit more bite in reverse. It seems to run smoother than the 3 blade overall. In a mpg comparison we got about 3mpg with...

Fishing and crossing the border is about to get easier.

I am really not trying to advocate catching two limits in one day. My point is meant to be that it is really hard to try to decipher WDFW rules. I still have not found anywhere in the regulations either in the printed pamphlet or the on line regulations that addresses fishing in the US and...

Fishing and crossing the border is about to get easier.

Basically the WDFW does not want you to catch a limit in Canada and then catch a limit in the US on the same day. On any day that you have reported to have fished in Canada you are not allowed to fish in the US. Of course if it isn't even open for fishing in the US it doesn't make much...

    fishing for Atlantic salmon

Reports say they have been catching them off the beach at Port Townsend and in Sekiu/Clallam Bay and Neah Bay as well as some of the rivers. They are moving fast and in all directions, so they are probably heading to Canadian waters too. I was marking a lot of fish on my sonar while tending our...

Can I use the main hydraulic system to steer a kicker?

We use a tie rod the same as the one Pat is showing is bent and have had no problems with it. We have a 90hp Honda and tie it to a 8hp Honda and both motors are left in the down position while tied together.. We have many hours fishing in very nice to very rough waters. I would think that there...

Lady Washington, Tall Ship Aground in Sequim Bay

We were on our way out of Sequim Bay on Monday morning about 8:30 AM for a week in the San Juans and the lady Washington went aground right in front of us. They were actually in the marked channel but on the wrong side of it for a ship that size. At 11:30 AM there was a predicted low tide of...

    Vberth Storage Project-(bilge access)

Bob You certainly could leave the screws and be OK. The reasons I would remove them and fill with epoxy are 1: this will provide complete encapsulation of the wood 2: It will leave a flush service on the V berth. The strength of a properly prepared epoxy bond will by far override the strength...

    Vberth Storage Project-(bilge access)

Sounds like a really nice project you have going. I may do something similar myself if I ever get time. For your lip consider doing this. Use the wood not PVC, (Kiln dried Doug Fir is a good choice-Oak is not so good) as the epoxy will adhere to the wood much better. Dry fit the wood lip by...

    Interor Modifications

Over the winter I worked on a couple of interior modifications. The first was converting the passenger seat to one that is identical to the helm seat. It is more comfortable than the dinette conversion seat. It is mounted on a swivel and the seat has been raised to sit at the same height as the...
