    Cleaning Starboard

Fred - I have a swimstep built out of starboard, and a diluted bleach spray always cleans it right up. I'm pretty sure though, that you can't get anything to laminate or adhere to starboard. After lots of searching, I bought some decraguard plywood to rebuild my at bulkhead through Healdsburg...

    installing my own electronics

Bill - Good points. Actually the only place I ever do any solder connections is for the bus bar terminal connectors inside the cabin. The other tip I should have mentioned is to avoid wire splices at all costs, particularly outside the cabin. Jim F

    installing my own electronics

Gary - I'd give a hearty ditto to Dave's comments. Everybody can tell you that your first go-round with the electronics won't be your last, and without a little self-sufficiency you'll get eaten alive in the long run with installation costs. Plus, the installation costs give you a great excuse...

rack to raise electronics above cabin roof

Gary - I'm out in Bodega Bay, and there's a local out there, Tommy Burke, that does alot of this type of work for commercial fishermen. I wound up fabricating my own radar arch/kayak mount for my '81 Angler out of 1" OD stainless tubing. It's basically an A-frame, pretty easy to fabricate, and...

Again With the Hydraulic Steering Upgrade

Al - I just put the Baystar system on my '81 Angler about 4 months ago. The Baystar helm does extend a bit further out, but it made virtually no noticable difference on my boat. I did have to take my single engine off to insert the guide tubes in the motor. The older style hull has a narrow...

    Changing username

Hi Mike - I was registered under "das flug" and got everything so screwed up when I tried to change my password that I couldn't get back in, and finally wound up re-registering under "jflug". Can you just delete my old username and everything in it? I didn't have any photos in the album or...

    Hydraulic Steering Upgrade

Charile - I tooka picture of the bracket, but because I don't have an album set up yet so I couldn't post it to the site. If you can give me your address I'll e-mail it - Jim

    Hydraulic Steering Upgrade

Charile - I mounted it directly to the helm bulkhead, which on my old boat is 3/4" Decra-guard plywood. I used either #8 or #10 wood screws. The mount is just a small horizontal shelf with a 45-degree brace screwed to a short vertical piece of the same width. This is one place where a...

    Hydraulic Steering Upgrade

Hi Charlie - I haven't been able to respond for awhile because my password and user name were so screwed up I had to re-register. Anyway, so far I really like the location behind the helm. I had the Baystar steering, and even with that it was a bit crowded, but once it was in it's pretty...
