Loss of Power in Mercury 115hp EFI 4-Stroke

Colby I had to go get the invoice on the repairs, and yes it was the VST, some gaskets, filters, grommets and also had the injectors serviced. Now mine is a Yamaha but I think there is a lot of similarities with a Merc. In fact for awhile Yamaha was the maker of Merc power heads in that power...

Loss of Power in Mercury 115hp EFI 4-Stroke

Colby Your problem sounds more like mine the more I read about it. Mine would also rev to red line when not under load. I would have sworn it was electrical and not fuel related. I also changed my fuel filters, to no avail. All it took was the good fellows at Kitsap Marine and a fist full of...

Loss of Power in Mercury 115hp EFI 4-Stroke

Colby Awhile back I was having a problem with my 115 Yamaha. It would start right up, idle fine, and run great. But it would not go higher than 4000 rpms. It would not cut out or anything, just stop reving at 4 grand on the nose. It turned out to be an ethnol related fuel problem. I use Stabil...

    different ideas for tow vehicles

Dodge is going to hit the streets real soon with a half ton diesel truck. Would think that it would make a heck of a tow rig for a CD 22. Have seen some of the specs on it, but the tow weights was not one of them. But what I did see I liked.

Marinaut with square rear window... looks good!

Thanks Rich. That is an option that I do like. Be nice for sunny day cruising. Maybe get an optional curtain made up. Can see where a hard core fisherman would like to have a removable bulkhead.

Marinaut with square rear window... looks good!

OK Rich, you answered my first question about the bulkhead being removable. Now the second question . Is it hard to take off and put back on? I guess that was three questions.

    Kicker engine

Pat.jack I have a dual binnacle set up on my boat, and really like it. We use our kicker a lot, for fishing and just putzing around at slow speeds. I can control throttle and shift from the helm. I do have to hook up the tie bar to steer but that only takes a couple of seconds. We have two...

Marinaut with square rear window... looks good!

I agree, much better visual flow down the sides to my eyes. The round portholes were to disruptive for me.

    Boating Music

Anything by Dave Brubeck, Lionel Hampton, Benny Goodman, Joshua Redman, Miles Davis , or Louis Armstrong. Throw in some Sidney Bechet for good measure.

    Accidental overspeed of Kicker

I would question the fact that you got 6100 ripms from water flow through the prop alone. But since the motor was in reverse and you were going forward there might be internal wear or damage as the engine was not turning in the proper direction and the oil pump would not be picking up any oil.

Anyone else ever left their plug out?

I have made it a habit to physically touch the plug before I launch while doing my prep. So far so good.

Where to fish on Sunday in Area 10

Jeff Head on the south east corner of the island can be very good for kicking out a fish or two. Trolling a green spatter back hoochie just off the bottom is a proven fish getter Best on the slack.

    Out board service and maintenance

I agree, buy a manual for your motor, but spend the money and get a proper shop manual. Using a cheaper after market book cost me an expensive repair bill. Pay now or pay later.

WHERE CAN I BUY THIS CHEAPER?

For me sometimes cheaper is not better. I drive right by a Home Depot to go to McLendons. I know that I can find tires cheaper but I give Les Schwabe my business. I think that sometimes a more knowledgable staff and better service is worth paying for. Won't even get into the crappy business and...

    Outboard motor cowlings

Marc It is an 010 Yamaha 115, but with shipping cost am not sure it would be worth it for me. This is more than just a small scratch, but I don't think the fiberglass has been broken through. I dropped the camper back bow frame and it looks like a flex crack on the top right of the cowl.

    Outboard motor cowlings

Are the cowlings on outboards, especially Yamahas fiberglass or plastic? Pulled a bone head today, not to bad but I know its there.

    Kicker steering

Vern I have a set up very much like what Colbey is using, works good. I had use the EZ steer on my other boat And I did not like near as well. While I could keep the connector bar in place and never had to connect or disconnect while on the water, the detents on the sliding bar would wear and...

    Running cable in interior

On the interior I just use the window frame screws to hold the cable clamps. Zero holes to drill.
