    Canadian Customs for Boats

    >As a side note, remember that anchoring even a few hundred feet inside >either Country without checking in first is considered illegal entry and >may be treated as a very serious offense. The consequenses of "illegal" can be expensive. Someone I know brought a trawler to Port Townsend in the...

    Replacement LED Cabin Lights

Not exactly what you are asking about, but I found great lights at Costco. For $25, you can get two rechargeable LED lights. They plug into 120AC to recharge (charger is internal) and stay lit forever. Bright enough to read by. I put velcro on their backs and where I'll use them, cabin and V...

    So Where Am I?

Good thing they were able to come up with an answer. You really got to get a GPS so you don't have to be asking us. (and thanks for the lovely pictures!) Dave

    pee hole clogged

Take your engine cover off and be sure the tube to the pee hole is firmly in place. Your pee could be leaking inside.

    Safety boat opportunity

I certainly don't want to draw folks away from the Sequim gathering. Maybe this is something we can work into plans next year - hopefully on a different weekend. Dave

    Safety boat opportunity

I know this is short notice, but I received this just now. It is a 15 mile rowing race out of Anacortes. I bet they'd be enormously pleased to have C Dory safety boat. Can't do it myself because of Wooden Boat Festival. Dave I received this from one of the Open Water Racers who was here in...

    iPad questions...

I'll be interested in following this for the GPS issue. I have the Motion X, and it works beautifully on land for almost no money. Talking Tom entertains children. SOS Quake tells you the latest on quakes around the world. Pro Keys turns it into a piano and drum! News Pro is very good...

    07/16 - 07/18 - Bellingham, WA CBGT

Using my best questionable judgement, I crossed from PT to the Juans late this morning. Big water for a little boat! We had a good spell of towering swells in the ship channel and beyond, but then things calmed a bit toward Smith Island. I am happily anchored north of Spenser Spit for what...

Responded to MAY DAY call today....

Further update. My sister said the boat struck bottom, or rock, with its keel, which is bent. Gashes in the aluminum bottom both sides of keel. The keel forced backwards and penetrated the middle void, which then released 1400 gallons of fuel into the engine room. And one engine shaft...

Responded to MAY DAY call today....

We spoke with my sister this morning. We were happy to hear that her husband was home yesterday. Might have been better if he had been aboard, as he would not have gone on the wrong side of the buoy, which is apparently what happened. The captain aboard (they have two aboard who have masters...

Responded to MAY DAY call today....

I saw it first here! What a shock, since it is my brother in law who is the person in charge of that vessel Massachusetts. I was nowhere able to find who was skipper today, hopefully not him, and not real likely as I don't believe he works Saturday. That boat has had a bunch of bad news. A...

    06/18 - 06/19 - Port Townsend Safety Launch

Thanks all! It's a great idea to have some form of identification for the safety boats. I will pass that on. Talking with Steve yesterday we came on the idea of possible C Brat safety boats elsewhere in the country. I wouldn't be surprised if the fine New England Brats might step up next...

Okay. We have a majority (includes one direct email), and no dissent. I will tell Steve to consider it a donation back. Thanks.

    06/18 - 06/19 - Port Townsend Safety Launch

Two things. I was asked this morning if we would accept some gas money for our safety boat services - divide up $200. I thought about it a moment and said I would put it to a vote. Whatever you participants decide, rules. An option might be for us to donate it back to the race organization...

    06/18 - 06/19 - Port Townsend Safety Launch

Here are the comments of Steve Chapin, race organizer: I want to thank you Dave for a job very well done. You made my job as Race Director easier by how smoothly the Safety Boat coverage ran. From my perspective it was seamless. You all dealt with situations as they arose, and the race...

    06/18 - 06/19 - Port Townsend Safety Launch

Thanks Harvey It was a great time all around. I'd sign up again in an instant. I have some nice comments from Steve Chapin that I'll post - I'm away from home a couple of days. Maybe we need some more wayward boats somewhere that we can herd! Dave

    06/18 - 06/19 - Port Townsend Safety Launch

I got word that the Port took care of the mooring fees, so it didn't come out of the Race's limited budget. We've had a lot of nice comment, and this from the national director of the Open Water Racing: We have so much to be thankful for. High in that list is the presence of the C-Dory fleet...

    06/18 - 06/19 - Port Townsend Safety Launch

I didn't stay for the awards, either. When the race was over and we were back at the docks, I took a deep breath and felt a great relief that none of the competitors had died or even needed rescue. I feel it was tremendously important that we were there, and that we had our act together. Over...

    Till now, lucky with Wallas...

Tom narrowed down for me the problem being that the pump is not working. The glow plug was hot, but apparently no fuel. I'll give Scan Marine a call, I guess - Tom's advice. He thinks it could need one of the expensive control boards. Dave

    06/18 - 06/19 - Port Townsend Safety Launch

We have seven boats over in Mystery Bay, ready for the race today. Tom, if you're getting Internet, meet us off the Marine Science dock at 9:30. To get there, leave Port Hudson, go left along the shore towards Pt Wilson. There is only one dock along the way - you'll see us gathered off in the...
